Question to anyone who dislikes 'The Hangover'
Do/did you enjoy partying and getting drunk?
It would explain a lot to me if the answer would be 'no'.

i hate to use this word because it gets thrown around so much but the people that dont like this movie are flat out pretentious not to generalize but from my experience those people think its low brow or predictable or it has some harmful element that shouldnt be glorified... but lets be honest the true hilarity in this film isnt the story but the ACTING... its one thing to say what its another to say what with an upward inflection and slight change in tone of voice... not that that was in the movie... their expressions and delivery of lines is what makes this movie one of the funniest of 2011
the only punctuation i use are ellipsis...
I don't think it's "low brow" or predictable or harmful. I just didn't really find it that funny. It had moments, but overall was a mediocre comedy IMO. A lot of "been there...done that" stuff (or at least "seen that in so many movies") moments. I guess what really turned me off about this movie was that there was nothing at all to make me care about any of the characters. Granted, many comedy classics share that...except those that didn't need to. "Airplane", (oh crap...I can't think offhand right now of another). Anyways...I can't imagine Hangover being ever considered as a "classic" in 20 years. I've practically forgotten it already. Wouldn't have walked out on it...but also wouldn't ever watch it again.
That being said mr taylorhamilton...you shouldn't "generalize" when others' opinions of a movie differ from your own ("generalize" being your own choice of word). I question your "experience" and your glorification of the acting in the movie. I found none of the "acting" hilarious to be honest. Adequate for this type of movie, yes...but no hilarity found here IMO. Just saying.
Please do not attack me for my opinions...we're all entitled to them.
I understand that i have such a broad taste in comedies that i would be apt to like this movie. I didn't mean to generalize, as i said, and my experience comes from several conversations with friends of mine who are also members of an amateur critics group, as well as others from the group. And the acting that i "glorify" is limited to Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, who are the main reasons i enjoy this movie.... didn't quite know how to take the "Just saying." but a considerate and well versed reply all the same...
Thanks for not being like those others i lumped into my "generalizations"...
No disrespect meant. Comedy is and always shall be subjective. Many find Monty Python absolutely hilarious. Others don't. I don't think there has ever been any comedy performer, movie, TV show or even joke that has been universally considered "funny". If we all liked exactly the same things it would be a boring world IMO.
I never judge anyone else based on their personal tastes. I love the show "Reba" and find it hilarious...but I also know it's not exactly a comedy classic. It just makes me laugh. Whatever makes us laugh is always a good thing, especially these days. Hangover made mega-bucks, so obviously made many laugh. I respect it for that. Just didn't do it for me personally.
I've done some really crazy things in my life and gotten into ridiculous situations and I just did not find this movie funny.
sharei love to party, but this movie isnt good. giving it a high rate because you like to party is a stupid thing to do. i didnt laugh at all watching this hyped *beep* of a movie. its just dull, cliche and stupid.

i think the people that like this were a bunch of nerds that never went out and partied hard, and think its so awesome what happend in the movie! freakin douchebagspretty much that sums it all. i'm 18 and i usually go home everyday at 6:00 at the morning drunk or stoned or both. everybody that i know who liked this movie is the usual nerd who sits at the corner, gets wasted with a beer, goes home every saturday at 11:00 and the next day brags about the night he spend. P.S. i hated the movie. boring and pretentious share

I'm a 40 year old woman, and am the obvious minority in that I actually liked the Hangover II better. I thought the first one was way obnoxious and over the top. I saw the second one tough and really enjoyed it and LOL'd the whole time. Maybe I need to watch the first one again.

I just didn't laugh. This one and Bridesmaids are overrated in my book. But I find 17 Again to be so much more funny. But everyone has different taste. And that's a good thing:-)
sharePartying and getting drunk are one thing. Bachelor parties are a different issue. More is at stake. If the groom screws up and gets caught it could jeopardize the wedding. Bachelor parties used to be the night before the wedding. I am glad almost no one does that anymore. It is too much drinking to do the night before your wedding. Every bachelor party I have attended was a week or more before the wedding. When you see the guys from the party again at the wedding and try to have a serious conversation it can be hilarious.
