This is the beginning of the end for the MCU
Audience and critics are getting tired of low effort movies.
shareAudience and critics are getting tired of low effort movies.
shareWhat are you talking about? The MCU has been at the beginning of the end ever since after Avengers: Endgame, I'm really hoping that after shit film is flushed Disney will finally come to their senses and just drop the MCU from their name once and for all.
share🤣
shareLol mcu trumps dc and thats why your pissed off, a few duds of late but thats been rare over the last 15 years. Marvel will continue to dominate whilst dc continues to fall behind, what was the critic score for black adam again? Lol game set match bitch
shareWhat a stupid whataboutism. No one cares about DC either ...
shareThe MCU isn't going anywhere no matter how poorly this movie does.. The MCU franchise as a whole has made $26.6 billion.. It is just on to the next flick.
shareIt's freaking insane that it happened in the first place. That success will never be replicated.
shareVery true. They've had a great run. With the Fantastic Four about to be announced, I'm pretty sure they've got some way to go yet, although I would like to see a reboot within the next ten years.
shareLet's wait for them to make a film that loses money before making such dire predictions. They're 31/31 so far.
shareYeah, people complain about the MCU losing its touch yet they keep watching them.
shareAs far as I'm concerned the only people who go on about such things are either film snobs or Pro DC anti Marvel fans. Personally I myself like both DC and Marvel.
shareSame. Rooting for both to do well. Bit surprised this is getting such divisive reactions tho.
shareNo fans are getting sick of marvel as well. John Campea, one of the least biased reviewers on youtube said antman3 proves that marvel has lost their magic. Also Just check this girl out who said she was a fan of marvel since she was 8 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1RWIebs8eeY
Its not just woke critics that are tired of marvel not putting any effort in any of their new films.
I disagree but then I like Kang and want to see what they do with him. Plus, it'd be nice to have them do X-Men better justice. Like doing Rogue more faithfully to the comics or doing Cyclops justice. Or even just doing movies on Star Jammers and the Shiar (they were done really bad in the previous X-Men movie). Plus a faithful take on Dr. Doom where he's not a rip off of a Spider-Man villain.
shareYep, all three of the MCU films released last year ended up in the top 10 highest grossing films of 2022. They're still on a winning streak with this franchise.
shareWell of course cause its marvel, it takes time before a popular franchise starts dying. You need back 2 back horrible properties in order for fans to become disillusioned with a franchise
share2022 is a poor year to use as a benchmark. It had the lowest number of released movies in decades from covid truckle down, and many that were released were shelved projects or smaller films that could be done mostly in studio. It's also why Top Gun 2 did insanely well...it simply lacked much competition. If these movies had come out 10 years ago, they likely would have failed.
shareI think Top Gun 2 did well because of positive word of mouth, nostalgia for the original and also because we don’t see any films with fighter jets.
Yes the summer release window and lack of competition was also a factor for its box office but the film has also gone on to have massive success on home release as well.
Ant-Man 3 will suffer due to poor word of mouth and fierce competition from this month with Scream 6, 65 and John Wick 4 and it’ll be interesting to see how well it does compared to other blockbusters from this year and whether all the Marvel films are still in the top 10 at the end of the year.
Oh, I'm not disagreeing that Top Gun did well in part, simply because it was a good movie. I'm just saying it went bonkers in sales because it was what we had. Also, the competition it did have was pretty lacking. Thor 3, Jurassic world 3..ugh, what turds. But I also agree that a lot of it's appeal was just being a kind of movie we haven't seen in a while.
shareYeah it really was a crappy summer for blockbusters outside of Top Gun.
Hopefully we can get some better blockbusters this summer with Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Spider-Verse 2, Transformers, Extraction 2, Indiana Jones, Mission: Impossible and Oppenheimer.
The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow, and Eternals all lost money. They all failed to reach their break-even point which is 2.5x their budget.
shareThat is a simplistic, and inaccurate, way to measure profit. Remember that Black Widow generated $125 million in streaming revenue, which unlike box office revenue is nearly all profit. It's impossible to know exactly, because everything is "reported" and "estimated," but based on what we do know, a safe estimate is that Black Widow made in the neighborhood of $75 million. That doesn't include any auxiliary income-- home video sales, toys, licensing deals.
Data for Eternals is harder to analyze because it didn't have a simultaneous pay-per-view release, but we do know Marvel received $100 million in corporate partnership money to offset marketing costs. How much those costs were is anyone's guess, but between that money, the box office, streaming, toys, etc. It's difficult to come up with a scenario where the film wasn't profitable.
The Hulk movie also came with huge corporate sponsorships, and massive toy sales and licensing deals, not to mention home video and streaming revenue that all told likely exceeded its box office take. Strictly on box office, the Hulk film was about $35 million shy of profit, but taking all income into account it couldn't have lost money.
Forbes reported that Eternals was well over budget (272 million) which means it definitely lost money.

Also you can't count home video sales, streaming, toy sales, or licensing deals because then even movies like Justice League and Birds of Prey would be considered successful.
I don't think Birds of prey made much from licensing deals. If the movie fails, usually the collectable market does to. Justice League might have done ok, because those characters were already big in the collectable market.
shareAnd then u woke up
shareEvery lackluster film damages the brand. They're slowly training their audience not to care about these movies anymore. You have to keep the momentum and hype and excitement moving. Throwing out lazy cash grabs and agenda driven entries brings the whole thing down, to say nothing of the dilution factor of too much content with all the shows. It's not special anymore. It's the bad side of everything being shared and connected. When parts are good, it brings the whole thing up. When parts are bad, it brings the whole thing down. The movies also have the same problem the comics do. The audience is mostly older dudes and they keep trying to make it for kids and what they think women want.
shareMCU has been plagued with low effort movies from the start.
Low effort but somehow successful ... only few of them had been decent ...
I think the first Black Panther was the first movie they phoned in, and they knew it. It looked terrible and they mostly avoided casting the big name actors. It's why they gave it such a poor release date, because studios don't generally release movies they are confident in, in February. I believe they were stunned by the success of it, and realized marketing was more important than quality from that point forward.
shareThey could absolutely turn it around. All one need to do is start giving a shit again about these worlds and characters they're creating. Could go a long way. They have a strong villain in Kang going forward so hopefully that serves as some inspiration.
Reviewed the movie here if anyone is interested. Always looking for feedback, its appreciated- https://youtu.be/AjisGsxegeA
