Who is the audience for a swearing Robin?

Like, did fans of the character want to see a swearing, face-stomping version of Dick Grayson?

Was there a demand for this interpretation?

This show looks so needlessly gritty, something which the comic has never been, that the decision-making behind it is baffling to me.

reply

Yeah, the whole "F Batman" moment in the trailer pretty much killed it for me.

reply

TBH, they toned it down after the first few episodes when they changed writers.

reply

No wonder this show has no focus. Its all over the fucking place, man.
Season 1 was just pure build-up and they even cut the finale out of it.
Trigon felt like a throwaway villain in Season 2.
So, disjointed and stupid AF.

reply

I think they just wanted to establish the tone of the show from the start.Let the audience know that this was going to be a grittier version aimed at adults.I like it.It gets better as it goes.My one gripe, and i've mentioned this before,is Starfires wardrobe. Can they please give her an outfit that doesn't look like it was bought at a retro 70s disco shop.

reply

As opposed to a MODERN 70s disco shop?

Eschew redundancy.

"something which the comic has never been"

Why would you even post this?

reply

The last episode was marvelous. The character building of Hank and Dawn is fantastic.

reply

Not really, unless you think the revelation that Hawk's superpower is that he was molested as a child is "fantastic"...

reply

So, for you, the only way for an episode to be good it has to have explosions, superpowers and full on action?

The character development in this episode was awesome, and both Minka Kelly and Alan Ritchson are great actors and the episode elevated the show.

Nope. I'm not even sure where you're drawing that inference from.

Me neither to be honest. I think that part was supposed to go to another reply in another forum.

Nevertheless it was a fantastic episode

reply

DC TV trying to achieve that level of extreme swearing and grittiness that wasn't the purview in previous Batman adaptations.

reply

I never watched the show but did see the trailers. It would have made sense and probably even intrigued me to watch had they used Jason Todd, instead of vanilla ass dick grayson

reply

I like it. Not all superheroes would be goody-goody. This show "tries" to make superheroes seem realistic and not cheesy.
