Sandra Bullock too old for Ryan Reynolds. Who should have been Margaret?

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but, while I enjoyed this movie, I was distracted by the 12 year age difference between Margaret and Andrew. I think Sandra Bullock is too mature, now, for these types of frivolous fluff movies. I could think of a lot of younger actresses, maybe a few years older than Ryan Reynolds, who could have done as well or better playing Margaret. Emily Blunt, Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz, Mila Kunis. Just a short list. Who do you think would have been a better fit?

I just think a lot of younger actressess in Hollywood today have trouble playing that uptight, bossy, cold lead believably (except maybe Katherine Heigl - but she just did that in The Ugly Truth and Knocked Up) which is why I think Sandra Bullock was great in this character. Plus, she looks amazing for a chick in their 40's.

All that being said, Betty White made this movie for me - and without her I probably wouldn't have finished it.

Cameron Diaz? She is great and all but looks older than Sandra. Sandra does not look that old. I think a different but same age as Ryan actor play opposite her; he is not a good or attractive actor. A 4-20 year age difference is pretty common in the real world when it comes to relationships.

Also Kate Hudson and Emily Blunt=not good actors.

As actor I think Jude Law would have been a better fit instead of Ryan.

Can't believe this topic is still going...

Well According to IMDB the role was intended for Julia Roberts, Love her she is an American Sweetheart but not sure if she would have been a better fit for the role than Sandra.

Not sure why age should be an issue, I am 26 my girlfriend is 35

I love this movie!! I love the way it was cast. I think RR and SB are great in this. You do not become the top editor, overseeing the whole office of editors, at the age of 30. Many of those younger actors would not have been believable in this role as they would not have been given the job Margaret had. Remember, when they told her she had to leave, they mentioned that Bob S, was the ONLY person in their organization who had enough experience to take over her position. Also, with Andrew's job, he had only worked there for 3 years, was only an assistant, and had not even been promoted to the job of editor yet. I thought their ages were very well cast for the positions in the company their characters were supposed to represent. Also, I hate to break it to some of you out there, but younger guys and older women date AND marry all the time.

that's the point. it's a personality and kind of an age mismatch. Why do you think betty white's character said "i guess you can call that a girl" when she first met her?

reply

I would have preferred Isla Fisher, Rachel Weisz, or Elizabeth Banks over Bullock. Yes, definitely maybe one of them.

What's the big deal? In movies most of the men are 10-20 years older than their girlfriends. What's wrong with it being the other way around for once?

bloody right jmoore919. No wonder hollwood actresses feel they've got to keep getting their faces worked on ... the age difference was perfect and part of the whole scenario ... Bullock is funny and was perfect.

"Everything is safe till it goes wrong" - Joe Simpson, "Touching the Void" - book only.

the age difference was obvious but it wasn't gross or anything. sandra bullock pulled it off quite well & she suits the role because if you are a boss then you'd at least be in your early 40's.

but honestly, i think julia roberts would have suited the role much better. she's 12 years older, too but her face just looks more youthful than sandra and even way more youthful than cameron diaz who looks so aged now.
