Sandra Bullock too old for Ryan Reynolds. Who should have been Margaret?

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but, while I enjoyed this movie, I was distracted by the 12 year age difference between Margaret and Andrew. I think Sandra Bullock is too mature, now, for these types of frivolous fluff movies. I could think of a lot of younger actresses, maybe a few years older than Ryan Reynolds, who could have done as well or better playing Margaret. Emily Blunt, Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz, Mila Kunis. Just a short list. Who do you think would have been a better fit?

No. I like the movie just the way it was. It was more believable with Sandra in it. Plus I like her acting skills which played well with Ryan and the rest of the cast. You start putting other people in certain roles and you'll find yourself with a movie that is just not pumping all cylinders. The chemistry has to be right. 12 years is the perfect age if not older.

Well, I don't think I'd have liked the movie if they had another actress for Margaret!
She and Rayan were just *PERFECT*. <3

Well for me Sandra was the perfect match! The years between them were also important for the story and the chemistry was incredibly. Besides Sandra does not like a 46-years old woman but much younger. But it's better if she wears her hair open

What an old fashioned and sexist OP. One of the major points to this movie was that she was reasonably older. Many lines make references to it. She was the boss and it's less likely he would have such a high flying and successful boss who was younger than him. Sandra was the perfect choice. Might've been interesting with Ashton Kutcher as Drew- he's good at physical comedy and has always had a thing for older ladies. Wouldn't have minded seeing him naked either!

reply

You're an idiot, OP. There are plenty of men RR's age and even younger who'd love a crack at Ms. B.

To be fair, of course, if the roles were reversed and it were a male boss, there would not have been a 12 year age difference...

...there would have been at least a TWENTY year age difference! (We're talking Hollywood here.)

I was married to a woman who was 13 years older, and I've dated women 25 years older. My current wife is 5 years older. I've also dated women who were younger, although the biggest difference there was 11 years.

I had no problems stemming from age differences in any of those situations.

While a 12-years difference is pretty big it is FAR from unlikely and generally the older you get, the less problem you have with age difference.

I thought they worked well as a couple though regardless of the actors ages Andrew looked like he was mid 20s while Margaret looked like she was late 30s and definitely older than Gert. Gert clearly not right for him because she did not love him enough to leave home and did not share his dreams.
