I can’t believe people are losing their minds over a lesbian kiss

It’s like we went back to 2003 or something. Gay marriage has been legal in all 50 U.S. states since 2015, and there have been a boatload of children’s entertainment in the past decade that have featured gay relationships (mostly involving lesbians), but people are mad because some unimportant side characters in a Buzz Lightyear movie share a peck on the lips?

reply

Thats because your a gayqueerplusetc…. Right? Doesnt Satan provide hell for you as a place to spread your indignity? I dont get these ppl that feel like they have to spread their mental illness around. When will people recognize that they are ill in their minds?

reply

I’m not sure what that means, but I’m not even much of an activist. I just find it insane how people in the Western world are still losing their minds over this stuff in 2022. It’s like complaining about an interracial couple in a movie. I thought we were past this stuff?

reply

It’s like complaining about an interracial couple in a movie.

Uh....so based on your post count, it looks like you're new. So uh, keep in mind that you're going to run into this as well on moviechat lol

reply

I actually did notice that over on the Doctor Strange board. I just assumed those people were trolling. On the other hand, the lesbian kiss in this movie has attracted a fair amount of mainstream controversy from conservative public figures.

reply

Not just trolling, I'm afraid. You'll see this sort of attitude whenever a movie has an interracial relationship. Sonic comes to mind. Unfortunately, there is a group of racial purists that do hang about this website who don't think races should intermingle.

I think this movie might have generated a larger reaction compared to Dr. Strange because Buzz comes from Toy Story, which is historically a children's film. And some conservative people do consider an explicit show of LGBT sexuality to be an "adult theme", and that it does not belong in a children's film. This may or may not overlap with other existing attitudes towards LGBT sexualities, but I think that's the critical part that's key here.

Everyone's going to be a little bit different of course in terms of their exact reasoning (or lack thereof) for their condemnation. Thus, the legality of same-sex marriage is irrelevant to their concerns over what is appropriate. Like you got people who straight up don't want any LGBT stuff in their films. You got ppl who are "don't ask, don't tell". And you got people who'd be fine if it weren't in a kids' movie. I think the combination of all of this, particularly the latter, is what's generating the fervor.

reply

I think if people want to argue that it’s inappropriate to show a gay couple in a children’s film, then by that same logic, it should be inappropriate to have straight couples in these movies as well.

reply

WRONG. 99.9% of the audience were born of NATURAL reproduction from a HETEROSEXUAL couple. Normalcy is never inappropriate, HETEROPHOBE.

reply

lmao. Who called the reddit users?

reply

I get it but its a slippery slope. A very slippery slope. It is a failed enterprise. As it turns out you cannot enjoin a multitude of cultures together and expect angreat result of integration. But what is clear is that all diversive cultures will comepete against each other for control. “SEE THE HOSTORY OF THE WORLD.”

reply

I just find it insane how people in the Western world are still losing their minds over this stuff in 2022.

Mostly Americans, frankly. Mostly Bible Belt Americans.

reply

I'm here because i read it has been banned in 14 countries so that blows the hell out of your its only the Western World huh? The rest of the world doesn't put up with this crap. We do

reply

When did I say this only happens in the Western world? I’m saying that the Western world should be better than all those countries that banned this movie because they hate gay people.

reply

Thats some straight Toxic Masculinity right there to assume certain countries are "better" than any countries. We are all created equal sir.

reply

Kind of like people losing their minds over pancake syrup, brown rice, butter, and sports team names too.

reply

💯

You have a serious mental illness, get help!

reply

I don't like watching Men kiss, it's gross, however two beautiful Women can kiss freely and deeply all night long with no complaints from myself. Watching animated characters kiss is silly.

Is that homophobic? I also don't want to watch ugly lesbians kiss. I do not want to watch morbidly obese couples kiss. In fact I would say I prefer to watch two Women kiss over a Man and Woman.

If you wish to kiss in my presence, on my television screen. Ya' best be hot, I tell ya'.

Double standards? Yes. I don't care.

reply

Entertainment industry is based on double standards in the first place. Beautiful people = heroes. Ugly people = evil villains. It has been like this from the dawn of time.

reply

Because your gay right? Is that why you have no objection about lgbtqia+ in a film crafted for very young children?

reply

No. I’m just not sure why a gay couple in a kid’s film is anymore of a problem than all the heterosexual relationships we’ve seen in a million or so other Disney films.

reply

You have a spiritual/mental illness it has been said. There may be something wrong with you though you think not…

reply

What is a spiritual illness?

reply

Um no, this is supposed to take place before Toy Story 1 so pre-1995....the overwhelming majority of people pre-1995 weren't thinking GEE, IT WOULD BE SO COOL OF TWO UNDERAGE GIRLS KISSED IN A CARTOON MOVIE!!!

reply

The lesbians in this movie sure as hell don’t look underage…

reply

It's a kids movie set pre-Toy Story...there's no reason whatsoever for them to have any kind of gay agenda except for the fact that Disney management is hell bent on their woke agenda.

reply

I actually am somewhat inclined to agree that if this is meant to be a film within a film, then there realistically wouldn’t have been a married lesbian couple in something from pre-1995 (assuming that’s when the first Toy Story takes place), but there probably wouldn’t have been so many people of color either, so I’d say you just have to roll with it.

reply

Plenty of POC in movies and TV back pre-1995.

reply

Yeah, but this movie seems to have a lot of them. More than what you’d see in the typical movie from that time.

reply

Toy Story does not take place in the real world!

reply

It doesn't matter what year it is, it's a perversion against God and nature, and always will be. It's wrong to brainwash children into thinking it's "normal". People may be more vocal about this film because it's a beloved character they were looking forward to seeing. But I am neither angry nor "losing my mind". It's just sad to see. As more kids make the choice (or are pressured or encouraged) to claim they're gay/queer/trans, their suicide rate goes up. Is that something to be happy about?

reply

Great to know that the many “brainwashed” who aren’t you in this world (including big bad Nazi-disapproved Hollywood) are going to continue to exist and be an inconvenience to your Neanderthal self.

But the very few non-hateful folks on these boards, this is the alternative facts-spewing kkkristian reich in a nutshell! This projecting cultist Q-nut fascist alone speaks for every bigot broflake in these boards. Hey, their constant fear-mongering is really making Hollywood rethink their woke (repeat x500) boogeyman/woman ways though, huh? As if.

Unkindly, Fuck your God and idea of nature.

reply

LOL what kind of schizophrenic post is this?

reply

Saying something sane (and non-hateful) in a place that’s overrun by the opposite of that. Well, just keep in mind: it’s only one kind of people losing their minds over this. And who/what are they? Reich wingers. Simple as that.

Thankfully, you can be certain the majority of movie audiences aren’t/won’t be bothered by something NORMAL like this. Now we may be living in an era where reich wing extremism is particularly desperate (“gotta take our country back!” “Gotta go back to the traditional ways and not let anyone who exists and is different from us be seen and live!”), but don’t for a second think these broken record gO wOkE gO BrOkE reich pill chuds are speaking for the majority. In a page like this? Sure, it’s packed with hateful clones on here. But for all the reich’s endless crying about woke and agendas (non-reich wing ways), these chuds are only being left behind by progress and dying off, you know? End of.

reply

Because its not natural. Humans are supposed to reproduce and pass on their last named and dna into the future.

These people are choosing something that will forever erase their dna and possibly forever remove their families last name from the world.

Sounds perfectly natural right?

reply

Going to space is also unnatural.

reply

No it's not.

It's exploration. Heck, even in the Bible, God explicitly tells man to "seek understanding".

In order to seek understanding you have to acquire knowledge, and some of that knowledge means venturing into and exploring the stars. Even the angels noted that man should develop and understand the sciences but "in his own time". So without help from outside forces, and according to a natural course, obviously (basically without using cheat codes like in a game :P)

I imagine there's a lot more to understand about life by observing the stars, and that may mean a select few of us being amongst them.

It's the natural progression of seeking understanding.

Killing off your own seed and being a genetic dead-end is not natural at all, and even if you go by the standards of Natural Selection, homosexuality is the complete opposite of genetic survival of the fittest.

reply

Reading the Bible (or reading anything, really) is unnatural.

reply

No, for humans it's natural because we have neurophysiological properties designed to comprehend complex germination of ideation. Ergo: the communication of ideas.

The written word is one of many formats in which humans germinate ideas, and help attain, retain, and spread knowledge, which is necessary for human survival (especially since naturally humans don't have the physical properties to survive on their own against many other animals and natural elements).

Thought processing is an important part of man's ontological disposition, and sharing thoughts through permanent or semi-permanent means, whether through paleography, hierography, or iconography, helps in that survival process, and/or the expansion of making survival easier.

reply

That's the stupidest thing I've ever read.

I spent many happy days in my youth picking Old Testaments off the Bible Trees.

This immediately made me think of Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigalo 😁😂

I'm surprised no one is more angry when they started tribbing.
