“People always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish, and so when it doesn’t go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel,” she said. “All of these petitions and things like that — I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.”
Words of wisdom from my niece and nephew's Nanny "We get what we get and we don't get upset." So sick of babies bitching. Yeah I had issues with it too but oh effing well.
This is a message board you dumb fuck. What else reason exists then to post your opinion of the show and partake in a debate with someone who may see things differently. What's worse than people bitching about game of thrones in the game of thrones forum is you bitching about something completely off topic.
It's exceeded constructive criticism and turned into toxic mob mentality. Hating something for the sake of hating it because others are hating that thing. It's a story on a loop and becomes reinforced.
The fans are allowed to be as pissed as they want to be, including signing petitions. I haven't seen anyone who hated the ending, bitching about the cast and crew, just the writing. The fans made this show a hit and its cast/showrunners millionaires. Petitions may be an act of futile self-therapy, but so what? We all deal with disappointment in our own way.
She's not actually disappointed. She is shilling for the show that made her career. But she can say whatever the hell she wants. And I can call her a dumb entitled bitch. And I've listened to her on audio commentaries for GOT Blu-rays, she really does sound like an ignorant tween with ADHD. So marrying Joe Jonas is probably a very good match.
Wow... sorry... but you are rich to call someone else ‚entitled’.
I’m honestly tired of cry babies, of “disappointed fans”, no matter if of the books or the show or both.
Nobody owes you anything. They made it, you watched it...that’s it. If you didn’t like it...tough $hit. They are not obligated to please everyone, or anyone for that matter.
If you didn’t like the show, shouldn’t have watched it and waste your time. If there was a point when you started to dislike it - could have stopped watching. If you only didn’t like the ending...well...can’t please everyone. They surely didn’t work on it for over eight years just to say : “ ok, how can we totally mess this up for fans in the last episode?”.
As visions shown in season four indicated, they knew all along where they where taking this.
You watched it...that’s it...nothing owed.
Do you also bitch around after you watched a movie in the theater and demand your money back or rant that they should redo it?
If you where disappointed, just get over it and move on lol - life is too short for stupid grievances like this. You accuse her of being a young ignorant tween... you don’t sound much better.
She actually has a point. People can be disappointed, surprised, whatever... but it is what it is, the vision the creators had, put thousands of hours of work in...and yes, it is disrespectful to petition for a redoing of whatever some people didn’t like.
Edit: and, as and afterthought...why do you care with whom she is? Or how they are matched? Not like you know them lol and why would you even care. You really should go outside and enjoy the real life. No offense meant, just advice...life really is too short for ranting raving and being so angry ;)
1-1. She could've said the show is not to her liking and thus upset the studio, the people in the business, etc. Not good for the career.
1-2. Or she could've said nothing with the very same people considering her silence as skepticism. Not good for the career.
2. Or she could praise the show. And that's what she did.
"The show has such a huge following that it is inevitable some would be unhappy with whatever ending made it to the screen. It's disappointing to hear some of those negative reactions, but at the same time I think that kind of passionate response is a testament to the quality of the work done by our crew, the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over the last 10 years."
Praise the show, the people who made the show and the fans. Easy peasy.
Sophie, if you're looking for a publicist, I'm available.
"I think [the crappy writing of Season 8 is] disrespectful to the crew, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it"
Without the fans you're nothing. Character buildup over a decade turning into a shock value knife in the heart, for what? Pathetic shock value--which completely backfired on you. And it does nothing for the fans or the characters that George R R Martin created.
It works in Season 1 and Season 3, because it's early in the show, and that's the way it was written. Shock value dragon killing by a plot hole fleet, a night battle we can't even see, a little girl managing to jump past the Night King's Wight's, Elite Guard, and then the Night King himself and then ending the Night King was the best Double Dumb could come up with? Starbucks cups and water bottles in the final version of episode 4 and 6? Really?
It shows a lack of passion among the crew. Then there's that horrible ending. Bronn gets Highgarden. What the ever-loving frack.
Visions from season 4 show that this is where they where going to take it all along.
I agree that it was rushed and hence some things made less sense. But we also don’t know what all went on between the scenes- if they butted head with HBO for time, how much had to be cut etc...
And yes, without fans you are nothing...but if people who start to dislike it still act like fans and continue to watch...well...their own fault.
If it’s just about the ending...I’m sure they didn’t purposely piss of people...just can’t make everyone happy.
One thing is sure: this series deserves a better third act. It deserves to reshoot from 5th or 6th season on. Is it really disrespectful to some writers and crew who feel disrespected? Maybe. But, as it happens that this is right, then it happens that those particular writers and crew that feel disrespected don't deserve to be respected.
Logic is a bitch: if you state that something that it's right is disrespectful to you, then you're stating you're not worthy of respect. If you were worthy, that couldn't be right.
"It deserves to reshoot from 5th or 6th season on"
What on earth are you talking about?
The seasons of Game of Thrones. This forum is organized in different subforums for each movie or series. You can find the link to the subforum at the top of the page. Here, for example, it's this one, that includes the different threads dealing with the Game of Thrones series:
So, if you read a comment about re-shooting some seasons but you don't know what seasons that person is talking about, you can go to top of the page and check the name of the TV series. If you find it confusing because of some disability, just ask for help, I'm sure people will gladly help and guide you :)

Which character arcs did season 5 and 6 ruin? You want to reshoot Hardhome? The Battle of the Bastards? The Door? The Winds of Winter? A Dance of Dragon's? Mother's Mercy? those seasons were imperfect, but still brilliant.
Exactly. Look, I get that folks are let down or pissed that the show did not get the ending they wanted. I get it that Dany not being the heart of gold Queen she seemed that she'd become pissed many, many fans (I suspect many of them being women), I get that Bran becoming king was a WTF moment for many, but they folks who paid for and produced the series wrote and shot it as they pleased.
As for me, I thought Season 8 felt rushed and ended with a whimper, and If I made the calls, it would have spun-out differently, but I'm not. And signing some internet petition ain't gonna change it...
but they folks who paid for and produced the series wrote and shot it as they pleased.
So what? Nobody is taking them to court for screwing last seasons. They folks who paid have the right to shoot garbage, but everybody else has the right to say about how they shot garbage.
Exactly what? I agree that season 8 and possibly 7 should be reshot. The last season was a parody of Game of Thrones. There is missing the mark, there is failing miserably to hit the mark, there is being sloppy and not doing your job as a writer competently, then there is the hateful middle finger to the fans joke of a season that was season 8 of Game of Thrones.
Saying that they "wrote and shot it as they pleased" is saying nothing. Yes, we know they wrote and shot it. And it was an insult to the people who have spent a decade invested in these characters. It takes 30 second to sign a petition. It took 10 years to get millions of people invested in a series, and then give them the middle finger.
I'm not sure if D&D really are terrible writers who are competent adapters of other people's work, or if they just decided they were bored of GoT and wanted to do something else. If it's the latter, then they should have given it to someone else. And they should rightly pay the price for being so arrogant and thinking they could get away with insulting their audience like this. If it's the former, they should not be given the chance to ruin anything else.
"Exactly" was in the context of the futility asking or signing petitions for any sort of reshoot. Complain vociferously if it helps you work through disappointment and anger. I think those in charge did their best to write and shoot the final seasons that they thought would be entertaining. I think they were underwhelming and season 8 definitely seemed rushed. It WAS a let-down, and it appears that many, many people feel that way. But perhaps it will grow on you, or become less odious, with time and repeated viewings.
If the writers did their best, then they are in the wrong profession. The fact that they chose to do 7 and 6 episode seasons when they had the option to do full seasons kind of suggests they didn't really do their best though. They could have handed the series over to other writers and washed their hands of it. They didn't do that. So, they get to deal with the backlash that is coming their way.
That’s a crazy statement.
So, you are basically saying that everything you have ever done, is up for you having to redo it because someone might criticize it. And that if you don’t you are not worthy of respect. Do you realize how crazy that sounds?
Specially with so many fans, many story/character arcs - you cannot possibly make everyone happy... and while many people complain, many people are also happy.
So if they are happy with their work, and many fans also...why should they cater to the naysayers?
That’s a crazy statement.
So, you are basically saying that everything you have ever done, it should be illegal and considered a crime to redo it. And if you do redo it, you should go to jail. Do you realize how crazy that sounds?
Specially with so many directors who have made reboots and remakes.... and while many movies are original, many directors and actors would be sent to prison.
So if they redo any movie or series, and many actors also... why should they be sentenced to jail?
Your reply makes no sense.
That’s not even the same thing.
The talk was not about someone else doing a reboot (which usually is many years after it’s done and with other actors etc - I doubt that would make GOT fans any happier).
Or is the petition actually for HBO to redo everything with new writers and a new cast?
My point was that it would be crazy for them to redo it with these writers and cast right now just because some people didn’t like the way it was portrayed/ended. It would not solve anything anyway because even if they would do it, it still wouldn’t make everyone happy...why would they waste money and time on that?
Edit: and how do you get from it being crazy to having to redo your own (8 year, mind) work, if you and your boss and thousands of fans are happy, just because some others criticize you for it - to: if you do redo your work it should be illegal? The point is that they are happy with it and don’t want to redo it...and shouldn’t have to just because some people don’t like their vision...
Your reply makes no sense.
That’s not even the same thing.
That's because I cloned the way you argue. I made up some crazy statement and assigned it to you, and then criticized you for making that crazy statement (which I have made up and assigned to you previously).
In case you're gonna start 'but you really said that...', here there's an easy solution: don't say what you say I said, quote my exact words instead.
So you just reply to that part, how you prefer to discuss things (which, I can respect your opinion, even though there is a difference between the comparisons you and I made...yes, I used your words to make another example but you just completely made one up) but not to the actual subject at hand?
