Some of you guys seem to really hate this movie....
Why?

People, like myself, hate this movie for the usual reasons. Hollywood likes to release horror movies that are full of endorsements; cute little fun moments that try showcasing a teen celebrity-inspired trendy lifestyle. They throw in the usual auditory elements just for the sake of releasing a soundtrack that regurgitates the same uninspiring garbage they play on the radio, and pack it full of wannabe actors and actresses with "good looks."

Forget about the fact that it's a remake, and one that has literally NOTHING to do with the original, but a remake nonetheless that offers no insight whatsoever in terms of creative genius. I would stand by my sentiment in saying that a good 75% of this movie was spent on silly, contrived plot devices that were a failed attempt at goading us into feeling sorry for the victims...but in reality, when the limo pulls up to take the main heroine away to her prom, her stereotypical gaggle of friends just made me want to vomit. I had no sympathy for them when they were killed off.

For the record, anyone claiming this movie was "mysterious" is on drugs. There was nothing mysterious about it. The audience was informed of who the killer was from the get-go. This movie is about as nonsensical and dull as the remake of "When a Stranger Calls." I am absolutely disgusted and appalled that the big Hollywood-budgeted horror remakes of recent times miss the intended mark of their predecessors by a mile; so when teens come out of the theater after watching this rubbish, most have no idea it was based on a film far superior.

It is for this very reason that I mostly like to live in the past as far as the genre of horror goes. Whenever I make the mistake of branching out to a more modern release, I'm sorely disappointed. Straight-to-DVD releases are more of a sure bet, but anything advertised on countryside billboards and product labels turns out to be a pathetic disgrace.

This is really a terrible movie. There is no reason to hate a movie though. Or using the word hate is kinda extreme like the movie piss on your grave or something. Just note that it's terrible will do. Or, not entertaining or whatever.

Anyway, this movie really terrible. For it to get awards out of it, those people giving the awards must really either got bribed or only watches few movies per year.

The acting is nothing great. The killer is totally one dimensional. There are not enough character development and no storyline. I do not know anything about the original but this one really is bad. Even the killing were mild and simple. Full of cliches of the worst kind.

Compared to Scream or I know what you did last summer, this is really off by miles. Those movies are good because it instill personality into the killer. Like the mask or the hook. This one..silent killer with a knife who only know how to stab people. Really not interesting.

Those who like it, please tell me how many movies you watch per year? And how old are you? I don't even see why teens would like this movie which is it aimed upon.

for This Kind of movie, it was pretty good I thought. Early parts of it were an acquired taste, but I got into it. Believe me, I'm surprised too.

I just started watching The Wire recently so Idris Elba gave the flick some weight...

Actually, I usually hate when people think that the remake is better than the original, because if you are a REAL hardcore horror fan, they aren't! However, the original Prom Night was actually a crappy slasher film that had Jamie Lee Curtis attempting (yet again) to recreate her classic role from Halloween. The film is unscary, filled with tonnes of dated Disco music, a wussy villian and maybe only one scary scene in the film. The new Prom Night is nothing special, but actually improves on the original concept. The villian is also unmasked, yet quite creepy. The story is also more direct and the ending is actually quite thrilling. Not exactly a great film for repeat viewings, but certainly worth a rent.

I actually like this movie. I mean, YES it definately could've been a lot better and scarier. But for what it is, it's really not THAT bad. It has incredibly sexy Brittany Snow -- so maybe that's one reason I like it.

And for people that think the original is better, ARE YOU HIGH?! I tried to watch that movie and I ended up texting because you could barely make out what was going on half the time. There were random disco-dances! And I couldn't even tell who was who.

Even though I'm usually a fan of the Original films, I have to agree with you 100%. The original was actually one of those forgettable rip-offs that attempted to cash-in on the success of Halloween and Friday The 13th. Those two still stand up today as classics, where the original Prom Night is severely dated! There was so much Disco music and dancing, it actually started to look like a rip-off of Saturday Night Fever! Also, it had to be one of the most poorly-lit films ever. And what was with that glitter mask worn by the killer?
Seriously, this is coming from someone who is usually a hardcore fan of the original rather than the remake, but at least this new version had likable characters and a villain that you could throw popcorn at. Not that I'd ever buy the DVD, but I still say it's worth a rent!

I think its better for tweens to watch instead of lets say - House of 1000 Corpses. But for adults - for me, I'm into all the blood and gore, the more the better, so this movie made me quite angry, because I was expecting it to be just another classic slice and dice movie. The plot and all that had really great potential though, they just ruined it with all the drama and not showing anything. Its good to watch if your bored on a Sunday night with nothing to do :)
