Some of you guys seem to really hate this movie.... Why? Well, I don't really watch a lot of horror movies, and I did expect more blood and stuff, but I kinda liked it... Didnt anyone else?
I didn’t set a lot of high expectations going into to it so there wasn’t a whole lot to disappoint. The opening scenes set the tone that this wasn’t going to be a “blood and gore” flick. (The PG-13 rating was also a clue). I found that refreshing.
After that, the fun was trying to figure out who was going to be killed and how they’d logistically bring those things about. Generally, they fell back on some “tried-and-true” contrivances (someone getting depressed and going off to the hotel room, the horny teenagers taking the phone off the hook). It wasn’t totally predictable as it unfolded but came pretty close to it. The bellhop getting killed did surprise me.
I didn't have a lot of high expectations either. I found it to be entertaining. I have to wonder what those who were disappointed with it really expected. It's a typical movie of it's kind. That's no surprise. It's not the greatest movie but surely not the worst either as someone else also said. It mildly goes back to how horror movies were in the 80's just one a PG-13 level. I would like to see more R horror movies also but things are different now. The demographics and wanting to bring in the young core of movie goers has changed things. It is what it is. But i thought this movie was decent. I even have one of Britany Snow's prom dresses she wore in the movie in my memorabilia collection.
I watched most of it on Starz and it's quite idiotic and poor, and while it does pretty much suck it isn't as bad as most people make it out to be. But again it was by no means a good movie.
I've said before that I saw this twice in the theater. The 2nd time I saw it was on 5/9/08, because it was the night before my actual prom! I was a Prom King Nominee, but I lost! : (
I think one should expect it to be cheesy and predictable. Is anyone really sitting down to watch a movie like this one and is genuinely surprised that it's like that? It goes back to horror movies of the 80's which are just like like that. It's not supposed to be some thought provoking piece of artistic brilliance nor should it be expected to be. Horror/Thrillers are my favorites but let's face it, there are very few nowadays that are outstanding.
Granted most horror movies work on the premise of pretty, dumb, people doing pretty dumb things and getting themselves killed, but even by those standards I thought it was dumb and not particularly scary. At least it gave me a few, unintentional laughs. Like it never occurring to the cops that the killer might have changed his appearance or the cops just basically acting even dumber than the kids all round. I think they should have just gone with it and made it a comedy or a spoof.
Also for a killer who was supposedly obsessed with trying to get Brittany Snow's character, after a time it seemed like he was more obsessed with killing her friends off than getting her. There were a couple of times when she was on her own and he was clearly there and he lets her go so he can hang around and inexplicably bump off one of her friends. I know they needed a body count, but they could have come up with a better way of doing it that fit the premise.
And I hate blood and gore, but the no blood thing was pretty silly especially when the killer kept dragging the supposedly stabbed bodies from room to room, but they still remained spotless. Was he carrying a bottle of Mr. Muscle around with him too?
I don't necessarily think he was just looking to find her get her and be done with it. I think it was more of a game in a way. Get her friends so no one was around her and I don't just mean physically. As far as the cops go, sure they may not have been as through as one would expect but such is the case in reality sometimes too.
I watched this I think it was about 1 AM with my gf we were alone in the house... and we really felt nervous after the movie... Then I heard some strange noise from downstairs... and I went downstairs I realised we left the door open :) ( it stayed open about 7 hours :))) I got a kitchen knife and walked all around the house :) checked if there is any bad guy:))) LoL it was funny but I really did this :)
We watch a horror movie because of this reason :) If you wanna scare frighten... Prom night is a good movie... Story is very simple but it shows how a talented director can create something very good...
you start to hear somethings after the movie :D:D:D its nice :D
-------------- Even if I dissaprove what you think! I will defend your right to say it!
nah gets harshly treated, it was ok, i liked it cause it wasnt like the original, not a shot for shot remake or anything, its ok to like it most douches on here will think your an idiot, but who cares??
No, it really wasn't ok. It wasn't scary. It wasn't suspenseful.
And it wasn't a remake of the original at all. It just happened to have the same name, so to credit it for not being a shot for shot remake carries no weight whatsoever.
I don't think you're an idiot; but I do think this movie is indefensible. I would rather sit in a theater and watch a slideshow of local real estate ads than have to sit through anything this bad again.
Well, I didn't think that it was completely unwatchable; but I'll admit that it was a wee bit disappointing. I think the things which killed this movie are the scrip first of all which seemed like something which was written by an eight year old and then the acting. One of the people who I thought helped to kill it too was that actor who starred as the detective.
No, I don't need gore, language or nudity to enjoy a movie. But I don't like to know who the killer is from the beginning and have no suspense or mystery whatsoever. There was nothing whatsoever to try to figure out in Prom Night; it was all spelled out from the beginning.
A twist is not necessary, but it can make a movie more enjoyable. Since we knew who the killer was from the beginning, I kind of expected a twist.
I even have no problem with suspending my disbelief if a movie is otherwise enjoyable. I think a child could have written a better script, and the acting was pitiful. The actions of the characters was not in any way believable. I usually enjoy almost every horror movie, and can even make excuses for some bad movies, but Prom Night just made me angry that I had wasted 90 minutes of my life.
I honestly don't understand how there is anyone who did enjoy this. I guess the cast and crew must have large families; otherwise, I can't believe anyone would defend this boring piece of tripe.
@ KingPretz, if you want to watch a horror flick where you already know who the killer is, watch Halloween, Friday The 13th or A Nightmare on Elm Street. Geez,
And who gives a damn if a horror movie is unrealistic, that's the point....
Anyone who says horror movies are boring are complete jackasses. It's like saying and action movie is boring...
I freakin' love PROM NIGHT! I saw it the night before my actual prom! I got a free Prom Night poster that night and it's still hangin' in my room! I love it for what it is! I don't care what the haters think; PROM NIGHT IS AWESOME!!!
"The Blood of Pumpkins Shall Flow Throughout the Land"
Yea, Hello. I'm supposed to be in the targeted demographic and I have to say that movie was an absolutely pathetic excuse for a horror/gore movie. Let's see. It has a bucketful of teen cliches (and I love cheesy things, but that was horrible). The girls and the guys performed horribly or it may have been the shallowness of their written characters. The killer was not scary. The music was horrible and there was absolutely no suspense at all. I predicted everything that was going to happen. The characters were idiots. And I definetely should not have wasted my 6.17 at Rogers for this *beep* I'm gonna kick you in the balls, Pumpkin_Man. Kidding.
i was ejlovesx, sexy. foremma_foreverago is my iBiffel, betch.
I literally can't believe people actually enjoyed this movie. I have never even heard of the original so it has absolutely nothing to do with that.
Seriously the writing was atrocious, there is ZERO story, there are no plot twists, there is nothing surprising, and it is just obnoxious. It was more of a comedy than a horror film. That is why I finished the movie.
The script for this had to have taken an hour tops to write.
