What was your favorite scene in the film?

"Sometimes a good death is its own reward".

When Stabler said that to the sexy superwoman before he crashed the plane. The look on his determined face and then the look she has was wonderful acting. Both characters knowing those were their last moments.

I wonder what she was thinking about? maybe..."What was it all for"? or maybe..."This is the real end of my people"

Nice.

I can’t think of a favourite scene. The whole movie is a favourite scene.

I think the supporting characters of this movie did such a great job. Stabler's role was so tiny, but his arc from start to finish was fantastic.

I think my favorite scene is the church scene, after Zod's declaration.

Cavill's just like, I'm the one they're looking for. Camera cuts to Priest who swallows nervously. But I love that whole exchange. The priest didn't know what to do, did the best he could, stammering a response that may have been instrumental in saving earth.

Thats a great scene as well! How about when Zod said "The foundation has to be built on something" and Clark begins sinking into the pile of human skulls and bones!

reply

Yeah, so many great scenes in this movie. I'm always surprised to find that it's not universally lauded. And Zod's full of great zingers and nuanced reactions.

I love when he's all like, everything I do, no matter how cruel, I do for my people; now I have no people. *cut to Clark's sad, sympathetic face*

And Michael Shannon filmed his scenes in the movie MUD around the same time as Man of Steel and he's like a different person xD

I always thought of Zod as buff, but in MUD he is skinny.

Nostalgia Critic on youtube made fun of Zod in the film but I thought he was an excellent villain and he's not just "oh evil guy is evil because he's evil" NO! He had real motivations that you can understand. Even in the films beginning when he killed the Council of Krypton, they deserved it for allowing their planet to become destroyed! Zod asked Jor El to join him to restore their planet, but then his anger of the councils misdeeds had him going too far in saying he will only allow certain bloodlines to carry forward. So Jor El saw that the tyranny of the council would merely be replaced with the tyranny of Zod.

Decent well fleshed out villain!

reply

Oh wow, yeah he looks totally bulky as Zod compared to Mud neat.

lol This is why I don't bother with nostalgia critic or other youtube personalities. Just absolute nonsense. And yep. Zod's personality and motivations were nicely constructed, and the multidimensionality of his villainhood was another great thing about this film that was ignored. People often bring up Thanos and Kilmonger as though they were the only villains in recent memory to add nuance.

If my memory serves me, another Zod scene that was great was when they came back out of the phantom zone and realized that Krypton was gone and all outposts were dead. Faora begins to cry and Zod held her to comfort her. It was nothing sexual, and even though it was improper military etiquette for a general to show a close care to those subordinate to them...Zod just let military etiquette go and showed compassion for his fellow kryptonian. Thats the kind of nuance that makes Zod memorable.

reply

Dude, I totally forgot about that until you described it. Yeah...man this movie has so many little touches. It's great!

When Faora said:

Is that when you were smitten?

xD

I was!

I like this movie but unlike others I don't feel any sympathy for Zod or his lackeys. I really don't get so many people insisting that Superman didn't kill Zod in Superman 2. He picks him up, throws him into the wall of the cave where he slides down into a fog. You hear him screaming indicating he fell a great distance and died. Yet people seem to insist he and his lackeys fell on a cushioned area and were okay. I think a favorite of mine is the big epic battle through the town at the end. Some people hate the product placement in that scene but I don't mind it. I don't have a problem with there being a lot of product placement. Do people really want just a bunch of random unnamed buildings get destroyed instead? That complaint is weird to me.

I genuinely think the criticisms of Superman's explicit execution of Zod in MoS, and the subsequent attacks on Batfleck's violence in BvS, are all just a reactionary criticism from MCU propaganda. Led to retroactive blindness concerning how violent other iterations of these heroes once were.

I'm glad the Snyder Cut of JL explicitly shows WW/Aquaman executing Steppenwolf.

When you dislike something, you just keep stacking up reasons to dislike it lol.

Hands down the first flight scene, when we see him in the costume for the first time and he learns about himself before taking off, with the amazing music playing in the background
