Hasn’t aged well

I remember when this came out people thought it was the best Rocky movie since the original, but now, it feels cheap compared to the previous movies with digital cinematography from the early days of HD cameras making the picture quality noticeable and the overall scope feeling more like a college or low-budget indie film compared to the more professional cinematic look of the earlier films.

Agreed. The way the fight was shot was like an HBO broadcast

reply

That is kind of a good thing though because then it tries to show REAL BOXING I think, we got 5 movies of fun fake boxing which I love, was nice to actually see something that tried to be somewhat real boxing.

reply

I agree. The fact that the fight actually felt like I was watching HBO boxing really added to the film. However, I didn't like when it went to black and white in parts of the fight.

reply

Ohh me either. I do like RB, but it def has flaws.

reply

It's pretty overrated. It's just a rehash of the first movie.

reply

It's definitely not perfect, but I thought it was a good way to close the series and send the character off into the sunset. One of the best things about it is that it's NOT a big budget spectacle. Little did I know...

reply

I agree and Disagree....The first movie is just pure perfect in my mind even though the boxing is not that real (It is the second closest to real boxing I say), But RB is the movie that comes to closest to real boxing when it came out of all 6 movies at the time I think...Sure, there are things that have not aged well, the script is very mehhhh (Except the scene where Dixons managers say if Rocky was in his prime he would kill Dixon) and Stallone looked AWFUL in the movie from all the steroids and hormones he was on. But I do appreciate how the movie did try to show some real life stuff..

1. Rocky is NOT rich again, he still is middle class after losing his $$$, but has some success.

2. He is the two time champ, but no one believes in current state he could KO the champ.

3. The boxing tries to be REAL BOXING. It is still very Hollywood, but this movie has the most real boxing of the 6 Rocky movies.

4. Rocky loses and he cannot train like he use too! Instead of just saying...Hey he won, no they show that he is good, but way past his time and he cannot train as hard, because of life and age.

Again the movie has flaws, but it is pretty damn decent and a good 6th movie...I will say it...I like it way more than 4&5.

reply

I disagree. I feel this movie gets better the more you watch it. And I think this movie and NOT creed is the one Stallone should've been nominated for.

This movie was shot on film... only the final boxing match was filmed on HD video.

It has a more modern, but similar look to the very first movie in which a lot of handheld and steadicam shots were used.

They had a very small production budget (24 million) and Sly has said many times that making this installment and getting it greenlit was the most difficult in the entire Rocky series.

I love this movie... has aged great.

reply

Well said, totally agree 👍

I'm just reading that Sly has a director's cut of this on the way. I wonder what he'll change though? I think there were maybe some more sentimental scenes with Paulie shot, so that would be nice to see them put into the film officially.

This post talks about things unrelated to the story and the emotions….thats all I care about in any film…so these complaints mean squat to me.
