I was really looking forward to this Grindhouse film; both shown together with the fake trailers in between. We were told in this country (UK) that it'd be something not seen before over here, interviews and magazine articles talking about the double feature. I couldn't wait to go and see it.
And then what happens?!?
It gets released in USA first and people start walking out after the first film, UNAWARE there was a second film! What did you guys expect? Did anyone look at the posters?
So it gets marketed as two seperate films, just so it doesn't happen again.
Thanks to you idiots, we guys over here got two seperate films instead of the one Grindhouse we'd all been waiting over a year for.
So thank you America. For ruining a unique cinema experience for everyone else, just because you're too stupid to read the posters!
Grindhouse being split up in Europe has nothing to do with people leaving the theater in the US following the first film.
It was split up because it didn't perform well in North America and the Weinsteins thought splitting the film up in other countries could help make it a little more profit.
Whoa, bloody hell! A lot of angry posts from a lot of angry people!
Yes I was out of order calling all American people dumb (I like how no one called me up on using an American slang word to slag you guys off). There are plenty of dumb English people as well, so maybe that was a bit of a generalization.
However, I’d like to just say that I posted that original post knowing it would stir up a lot of angry comments about how great America is and that I am indeed a limey red-coat bastard (my favourite one so far). You’ve all just proven that when someone dares to question American culture, you’re all gun toting red necks ‘I lurve ma gun, I lurve ma country. *beep* You! America’s great!’
You’re not all dumb, just severely short sighted when it comes to patriotism

What about American's like me who didn't bother to respond because we knew arguing was pointless, so we just said "whatever" and moved on to the next topic?
EDIT: You limey red-coat bastard!!!

Even being an American, I can't and won't defend Americans for letting Grindhouse flop. You're right to call Americans stupid here (and most other places too, I hate my fellow countrymen) but furthermore because Blades of fvcking Glory came out the same time as this and it far exceeded it in revenue.
The failure of Grindhouse in the theater, not only financially but also in its ability to be recognizied as a double-feature, does indeed demonstrate the lack of taste and the absolute absence of thought in Americans today. As elitist as that sounds, I don't care because I think Grindhouse is a TRUE masterpiece of modern cinema. What QT & RR did was so bold, so creative, intelligent, savvy and fun that it's absolutely CRIMINAL that they weren't more recognized for the immense talent that it took to create this movie. I cherish the little details they implemented into Grindhouse. They are evidence to me that the filmmakers were not condescending to us like most Hollywood producers do, but instead inviting us to enjoy the small, seemingly trivial things of life and film with them; details that Hollywood is surely oblivious to.
But every time I watch this film I am blown away by it. I saw it three times in the theater and to this day it's unquestionably the most fun I've ever had in a movie theater. When it came out on DVD in the fall of 2007 while I was studying abroad, I had someone ship them both to me in France so I could show my classmates it back-to-back on a projector (with the fake trailers from YouTube), and they all loved it. Even as I write this paragraph I have the enormous vinyl banner on my wall that I enjoy looking at everyday.
This film gave me everything I wanted in a movie: blood, action, great music, a thoughtful approach to movie-making, Mopars, sexy women and hilarious dialogue. EVERYTHING. I hope one day I can thank QT & RR in person for this movie as it's that special to me.
Needless to say, I can't wait for Machete.

All this coming from someone who wrote, "Every time I think the stupidity and poor taste of the American public can't amaze me, I'm proven wrong."?
To me, it sounds like the reply you were writing to me was almost indicative of yourself, of your own impatience with your fellow Americans' tastes (if not with this movie, elsewhere).
You just couldn't stand to be in the same "self-loathing"group as me though.
Get a clue, wench.

Umm the first four words of his post are 'Even being an American' and you say they didn't mention where they were from. Your opinion is now invalid crawl back to your hole.
i don't suffer from insanity i enjoy every last minute of it
Shut the *beep* up! I cannot stand when people generalize Americans. How in the hell is it MY fault people didn't like it, or they just didn't read that it's a double feature? It's not my fault. And just because people didn't know it was a double feature doesn't mean that they're stupid. It just means they were ill-informed. And I seriously doubt that's the reason they split it up into two movies. I have never heard of anybody walking out, unaware that there were two movies. They probably did it to sucker more money out of you. Don't blame us.
Odd. I searched the net and couldn't find one example of anyone walking out after the first half of Grindhouse. I should also note, there were no credits between the two halves. So, how would anyone have enough time to get up and walk out without noticing that the second half was starting. So, the next time you want to write an anti-American post, get the facts straight. Because it's you who looks like an idiot now.
I've asked it before, but does anyone have any actual proof of masses of people walking out before DP?
And IF people did walk out, what does that have to do with the movie bombing? Wouldn't those people have already paid? Whether they actually watched both movies doesn't affect the BO.
I've heard this same stupid argument over and over and over, but when I saw GH nobody walked out until DP actually played for a while, then, people started walking out. Nobody walked out before DP started.
And again, if they had of walked out, how would that have affected the BO and kept the poor English from seeing it?
I think it's safe to assume the reason it was broken up overseas is because it bombed in the States, not because people didn't stay to watch DP.
