I will never trust IMDB ratings and suggestions again...

Seriously, please tell me that this is all a joke... the ratings, the good comments.. is it all a bait for trolls (like the one I'm about to be) and haters (like the one I'm about to seem to be)?

This is one of the worst movies ever made in the history of the world. I don't understand how it can be even called "a movie". Everything is cheap, pointless, messy. Don't get me wrong: the message is clear, the meaning is clear, but everything used to bring this message to the viewer is boring to the point of being irritating (when you manage not to fall asleep).

How can this movie get more than 4 or (top) 5 stars from the people who watched (considering the suggestions on IMDB) "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"? Or "The Adjustment Bureau"? Or "Hereafter"? 2001? Lynch movies... Cronenberg movies... Kubrick movies...

This is the first time in my life I troll like this but I'm seeing comments like "best movie ever", "personal fav.", "top 5", etc... Please explain to me so I can dream of improving myself and join the club... Or poor me I will have to find another website to trust for rating and suggestions.

Thanks

I'll never trust imdb ratings again either. This movie is dangerously underrated. Should have a 9 at the very least.

Agreed, I wouldn't say this is the worst movie I've ever seen but it is pretty average and should not be looked at as a master piece. Just because it's weird and different doesn't make it good.

Unfortunately you see, The Fountain is a spiritual movie which is why nutjobs and lunatics enjoyed it first and foremost.

My favorite thing about these morons is that they pretend like this is a very clever and intelligent movie and that the only possible reason not to like it is because we didn't solve the "Puzzle" and didn't understand the movie. But those guys are full of crap lol because this "puzzle" was not hard to solve at all. I found it very obvious and I'm surprised so many people needed to view it 3-5 times and 4 weeks to finally understand what I understood on my first view.

so.... thoughts about life, death, existence, love, priorities, loss, guilt makes some one a "Nutjob"? How so? I thought that was being a human.
So, I find it somewhat "spiritual" concerning life after death, our place in the universe, and that is nutjob like? Again, how so?
Are you a human being or a robot or a 3 year old? Because it sounds like you lack ALL emotions? I think people that lack all emotions are nutjobs.

I do think about that stuff everyday (Not non-stop emo like or even close, but I appreciate my short life here while it runs its corse) and if doing so makes ME a nutjob in YOUR persepctive, well, your perspective is F-ed up. Grow up a little, revisit "deep" movies after you grow an emotion or two.

Because YOU don't connect with a movie doesn't make those that DO "Nutjobs"

I think I'll trust the spoiled fruit ratings more than imdb's from now on.

This movie is rubbish.

I couldn't agree more.
My guide to IMDB ratings that works well for me when choosing new titles:
1-4 = crap
5-6 = potentially great films depending on your taste, I rate with 8 some films that average 5
7-10 = generally worth watching, again depending on your taste, with the occasional exception

Please explain to me

You seem to think that personal preferences can be bestowed through explanation. They can't unless you happen to have very little conviction and look to others for what you should / should not enjoy.

so I can dream of improving myself

You also seem to think that one's preference in film makes them a better or worse person than others with different opinions. Enjoying movies isn't a competition. If you don't like it, don't watch it. If a lot of people disagree with you it doesn't make them right or you wrong, and there's no need to be defensive about it.

I will have to find another website to trust for rating and suggestions.

You should accept that nobody can predict with 100% what you, personally, will enjoy. You should also accept that all of IMDb is not on a quest to personally deceive you with dishonest reviews. You're just an unimportant internet stranger, just like me and everyone else here.

I think the problem is you take subjective data and take it way too seriously, and I'm responding to you in a completely respectful and constructive way. Aronofsky is a brilliant director. Do I think "The Fountain" is a brilliant film? No. Are there parts of this film that I absolutely fell in love with? Yes.

I named my daughter after Rachel Weisz's character in this film. Frankly, she was about the only thing that I thought carried the piece, but Izzi (we go Izzy) was outstanding.

If I rated it, it would be a "6". A watchable, creative film that makes you ask questions. I didn't buy it and I won't. You named four films and I don't feel any different about them with the exception of "Hereafter" which I just thought was trite.

I'm not sure how we got to Stanley Kubrick as he is a an innovator and his worst film tops this easily. This is not "Requiem For a Dream". This wasn't even "Pi" or "Black Swan".

Personal favorite though, you should know better than to get uppity about. Hell, I know people whose personal favorite movies are "Red Dawn" (the original). I can't blame them! Wolverines baby! I've seen that movie 500+ times in my life.

Do I think it's anything other than "Roadhouse"? No.

Is it "Apocalypse Now", "Fight Club" or "Barry Lyndon"? No.

It's fun to watch.
