I will never trust IMDB ratings and suggestions again...

Seriously, please tell me that this is all a joke... the ratings, the good comments.. is it all a bait for trolls (like the one I'm about to be) and haters (like the one I'm about to seem to be)?

This is one of the worst movies ever made in the history of the world. I don't understand how it can be even called "a movie". Everything is cheap, pointless, messy. Don't get me wrong: the message is clear, the meaning is clear, but everything used to bring this message to the viewer is boring to the point of being irritating (when you manage not to fall asleep).

How can this movie get more than 4 or (top) 5 stars from the people who watched (considering the suggestions on IMDB) "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"? Or "The Adjustment Bureau"? Or "Hereafter"? 2001? Lynch movies... Cronenberg movies... Kubrick movies...

This is the first time in my life I troll like this but I'm seeing comments like "best movie ever", "personal fav.", "top 5", etc... Please explain to me so I can dream of improving myself and join the club... Or poor me I will have to find another website to trust for rating and suggestions.

Thanks

SURPRISE!! OK GUYS, ITS OVER, HE CAUGHT ON!! haha, yeah, it was all a huge joke. all the hundreds of thousands of people who've said they always liked this movie were just pulling one huge, incredibly complicated and co-ordinated prank on you. i guess we can all change our scores on this site to one star now. *beep* this was just so extremely hilarious for the past eight years or so, what will we do to fill our time now?? quick, WHAT ELSE do you hate, so we can all pretend to like THAT one...? we just find you so fascinating, you know??

Do you even know what a troll means?

It means you've come here to talk bad about something that you know the rest obviously love, with the sole purpose of making people angry and triggering raging hate comments and (possibly) hate wars.

If your purpose was to express your true personal opinion about this film and/or express discontent resulting from the high expectations prior to watching it, built thanks to others' comments.... then you're not a troll.

No offence but I'm guessing that you just weren't able to follow the story. And if you were able to follow it but didn't like it and weren't a fan of the brilliant visuals then just move on. No need to get so over dramatic about something others like but you don't.

[Disclaimer - If you are really being a troll (aka douche) - do not read what follows]

The movie is the road to inner peace, the road that merges atheism with religion - if you had seen this and truly understood it you would likely either allready achieved inner peace (constant) or be doing so as you watched and understood the movie. Nothing you made in your life would truly mean as much as it did before that moment, ever again, you would truly understand life, the duality of mankind, the road to inner peace and get the path to understanding the universe in a new light.

You might think I'm projecting or transcribing my values onto the movie, I'm quite sure I'm not, I used to have OCD, alot of it, I broke that on my own at an early age, that turned me to logical reasoning as a way to handle all thought - this make me analyse in a manner that normal people simly don't do (or atleast as far as I know). The movie is so skillfully weaved and manages to weave with so many threads I was astonished watching it - Stalker is the only other movie that comes close, after that comes Mr Nobody and Sunshine (that I have watched so far, Metropolis 1927 - no - not close, 1984/Gattaca/Equillibrum/Sleep dealer... not so much, Donny Darko/Dark City... simply no, 2001 not even close...). All roads I have desribed can be clearly marked out in the movie, painfully clear if you look for them.

I can't tell you you didn't get "it", because I do not know what you know but your text is riddled with contradictory statements if you did.
As I said to someone else who didn't understand the movie stalker, I'm not going to be your guide, it's up to yourself if you want to doubt everything and start moving towards a so far unknown destination.

Leaving this much personal information to grateful aggregators is painful, luckliy I'm quite sure this is things allready picked up.

After reading the first post, I can't believe what I read! This is not a movie, this is a huge book of philosophy.

There is a certain effect with art movies to beware of: the people who like them tend to review and overrate them more.

The people who don't like them don't tend to rate them at all.

There are some people I've found who treat a 6 rating as a 60 on a paper: a failure. So, the ratings scales mean different things to different people.

So, there's no mathematical validity to the ratings. I recommend you read the reviews and look especially at the bad reviews to make your decision. Ask yourself this question: do all the people giving it a bad review sound like total jerks to you? If so, you'll probably like the movie.

Grouping people together and accepting stereotypes is always bad, because you never pay any deeper attention to the why, ask a chemist how a chemical reaction occurs and you will get a precise description of what occurs in what order, doing the same to human reasoning does not work yet as shown by our main socio-economical theory.

Regarding the rating I wouldn't pay more attention to them than as a pointer to if people think its bad, ok or good. You never know with ratings, they are like political surveys which get tweaked depending on whom pays for them. That due to how people react to the perceived context of situations - ie if two parties are shown to be head to head there is a higher likelyhood that either party can attract voters than if one party is leading by a mile. This effect works well in a democracy highjacked by a bureaucracy in which the general person is familiar with the median voter theorem (which would be most in the western world).
