So who was the most irritating and pointless character?

I would definitely say Erin. She shouldn't have been part of the show at all. She was made overly stupid and naive, and she didn't look funny at all. Completely redundant and unfunny character. Don't know whether it's the actor herself or what's the reason, but damn her character was poorly executed.

Plop. Everything about him was terrible.

Get on the scale son! Get off the scale.

There were several. Erin became increasingly grating and ridiculous as her time on the series progressed. She seemed unable to comprehend even the simplest of instructions. Toby has always been extremely annoying with his milquetoast delivery. I could never quite figure out the point of having Nellie around. When Andy was away and she took over his position merely by moving into his office, that was really irritating. And when he came back and was unable to dislodge her from his office because she said "No", all he did was stamp his feet and walk away.

But by far the most absurd character was Kevin. Early on, he had been a tolerable as a lovable giant panda. But by the end of the series his character had devolved into an over sized, slow witted man child, delivering lines with the finesse of a three year old in need of a diaper change.

Erin. She's adorable but they made her so stupid that she's basically a cartoon character. The episode where she waits until Pam's pens arrive made me CRINGE. Most of the characters are a bit absurd but at least have some levity to them but Erin isn't realistic at all.

Robert California

I would say Erin. I'm really not a big fan of Ellie Kemper's acting style. I've found her annoying on both this and Kimmy Schmidt.

I disagree, I loved Erin, found her funny, cute and managed to bring in some great arcs for the show such as Michael and her father daughter thing, the Andy arc.

Real pointless characters are :
The two new guys in season 9
The girl who tries to sleep with Jim
The girl will Ferrell hires
Carol

I disliked Erin, but she definitely wasn't the worst character, she just had the most screen-time out of all the annoying characters. I honestly hated every single character that was introduced after Michael left, it felt like they were just trying way too hard to find another character as funny and ridiculous as he was, but all they ended up doing was pissing off fans of the show with overly ridiculous characters like Robert California, but by far the worst character was Nelly, every minute she was onscreen was awful.
