Just had to switch it off.....

I couldn't wait to watch this film when I had the chance, decent rating, friends said it was good but when I watched it with parents; had to give up after an hour.

I just didn't see what was so funny. I like my comedies, actually love them but I just couldn't see what was so good about this.

Btw this is an opinion, if you start stating what kind of person I am then you are better of not posting anything.

Can someone explain to me how Anchorman is good?

How it got such a high rating is beyond me.....

I perfectly understand you.
I love Will Ferell, but found the humour in this one of really bad quality...

I agree. First of all, I don't find Will Ferrell funny.
One, he's a terrible actor who can only play the "douchebag comedy" type of role. And two, man, he’s just really, really, really unfunny.

Not to sound like a douche myself, but when watching Arrested Development or a similar show, not only do I get knocked out cold by the awesome jokes and dialogue, but the way the plot is written so that all kinds of situations and intricate details intertwine and create this awesome episode is just fantastic.

Then I watched this because my friends insisted, and I don’t get it. I really don’t.
Did the writers and Ferrell think long and hard about what would be funny? “I know, we’ll have him in a telephone booth wailing over his dog, but instead of speaking he just cries in a over-the-top way the whole time”. Or “got a great idea, we’ll have the restaurant owner bring him catpoop, and they will have a long back and forth discussion whether Ron eats the catpoop”. Or how about “Veronica tries to read the news but the guys are doing goofy dances in their underwear to throw her off”. Wow, brilliant!

To me, this is the kind of comedy that takes no talent or skill to come up with, and is only “funny” because we see grown men do childish things. It’s unoriginal and get boring quickly.

I'm having trouble with a patient of mine; he's a teenage drug addict who's being molested. By me.

I watched this movie for the first time today. I watched it all the way through just looking to see if their was a scene that wasn't extremely stupid, or one that was even remotely funny. I couldn't find any. I know a lot of you have a hard on for Ferrell, but the guy isn't funny at all.

Wow... tons of buzz killingtons in this thread. This is one of the all time comedies. Everyone in my generation can quote this movie nonstop, and most of the lines still get laughs to this day. I actually don't know anyone IRL who doesn't like Anchorman. Who are all you people lol.

Brick, are you just looking at things in the room and saying that you love them?

"So many great lines delivered perfectly by Ferrell and the other cast members."

I've just got around to seeing it for the first time and loved it. To each his own, but I have trouble understanding how others don't find this hilarious too.

The cameos were killers too!

"I'll give this little cookie an hour before we're doing the no-pants dance. Time to musk up."

Not one of my all time but I still think this movie is funny.

I'm generally not a fan of Will Ferrel movies. He's one of my all time favorite SNL characters, but I really only like Anchorman and Zoolander. Old School and Talladega Nights had a few moments but...meh.

What sort of movies do you like, usher??

Hey Dorothy Sahotar is a saint!!....Dorothy Sahotar is a saint!

I had the same reaction.

I'm not a snob, this movie just didn't make me laugh. Putting a bunch of former SNL people in a movie doesn't automatically make for humor.

If you want to see a real-life anchor meltdown, try viewing Bill O'Reilly freaking out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy-Y3HJNU_s

I found some parts funny, but I enjoyed the actual story more.

That's okay. I got two lines into your review and couldn't finish it either.

Old school is way better

One of those movies I had to get up and walk out. I don''t like idiotic comedies so was looking forward to this movie. I found it to be really dull and boring. Now I am not an American and friends told me back than in order to appreciate you should have been alive and living in America during 70s. Maybe that's part of it.

Will give it another shot in couple of months, I have been planning to watch it again in for the last seven years. Hopefully Americanization took hold of me so now I will get it ;).

I agree with the person who mentioned that you'd have to be in the 70's to appreciate the joke.

It's clearly made for today's audience with the joke in the comparison of how things were then and how we should appreciate the progression from those times.

If you go into the movie with that mindset then you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised. Live out the outer-sphere-things like how the premise sets it, this is Ron and he's the center of everyone's attention. He could do practically anything because he's the anchorman. None of the scenes that admittedly are idiotic aren't meant to discredit him in the eyes of us, the audience watching the movie.

To me the honest and simple bragging as portrayed here when Ron announced to everyone that he's dating Veronica is preferred to the awkwardness and genuine wtf as seen in the Amazing Spiderman.

Vecis, I think you have a good handle on what made this movie go. I really don't understand all those posters who who bothered to ramble on about how much they hated Anchorman while admitting they only watched 20 minutes of it. The overall experience, the number of cameos, the cultural references... there's a lot there and I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm not saying it's the all-time greatest film ever made, but it's endlessly quotable. Besides, I hadn't heard "Afternoon Delight" in 30 years and I nearly choked laughing at that scene alone. Compelling and rich!

"you'd have to be in the 70's to appreciate the joke" My son born in 1994 _completely_ gets the humor in this movie. Granted, he's very intelligent (roughly as intelligent as Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, let's say).
