Phantom of the Opera. Hands down.

The stage and book version though, not the 2004 movie.

Best love triangle ever, ending on such a depressing note.

There is a reason this show has been Broadway's longest running show and that people keep going back to it.

Did you ever see Jane Eyre 2006?
The best love story of all time.
Before that it was The notebook, Titanic, When Harry met Sally,
The Bridges of Madison County, Gone with the wind....
But this one beats them all. Hands down.

Hum I've got a few ones in my mind(titanic, walk to remember...) but this one inspired me, Kate and Alex in "The Lake house". Loved it!

For me there are a few.

The titles of the books/movies/series are:

Pride and Predjudice (And Persuasion, Emma etc.)
North and South
Jane Eyre
The Notebook

I sincerely disliked Scarlett in Gone with the Wind, but loved the famous line in the movie: 'Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn'. Always makes me smile :)

I didn't think Titanic was very romantic. The knew each other for two or three days, she openly cheats (at least with all the flirtations) on het fiancee (ok, bad guy, especially after she embarrasses him so much, but she didn't know the boat was going to sink, so why not break up after a few days?)

Cathy and Heathcliff.
(Wuthering Heights, the one with Laurence Olivier.)

Casablanca, GWTW and Brokeback Mountain. The best love stories are when they don't end up together.

"He makes her feel like a woman. And that frightens her."

This might sound pretentious and I already see a lot of people disagree with it. Now me, I don't believe in creationism (I say that because, I don't want this to sound like a biased opinion), but Adam and Eve! If you exclude their lack of romantic interests though lol. That being said:

I think that Romeo and Juliet is, and will forever remain the quintessential love story of any time. It was read back then, fifty years ago, and it's read right now. And a huge part of the whole thing is that it was written by William Shakespeare himself.

It wasn't lust, I mean, how many times would you consider killing yourself just because you wanted to have sex with a girl. I think the genius of Shakespeare is that he appealed to everyone, (Which is the reason we still read him today) both boys and girls like this story. As opposed to Jane Austen, who, in my opinion, is the essence of all that is boring (I know I just offended every women ever).
And for teenage rebellion, well killing yourself? Really, that's rebellion? I don't know, again this is my opinion, but I just wouldn't kill myself as an act of rebellion or an act for lust. But love in the other hand, than I might kill myself.

Its getting pretty heated in here. LOL people upset over othr people's choices. Its all subjective. So here's my list.

1. Wuthering Heights (Cathy and Heathcliff)
2. Jayne Eyre (Jane and Mr. Rochester)
3. North & South (BBC Version)
4. Pride and Prejudice (Lizzy and Mr. D'Arcy)
5. Titanic (Jack and Rose)
6. The Notebook (Ally and Noah)

These are all I can think of off the top of my head.

I'd like to add The Time Traveler's Wife. Another one McAdam's was in, but that's not why I like it. I read the book several years before it was considered for a film. And I'm not trying to sound high and mighty, I just don't want to sound like a follower, lol.
I think it shows that "true love" will and can last over time. It doesn't matter if the person isn't there all the time or even if you lose them, they'll always, always be your other half..as mushy and cheesy as that sounds. I also liked it because (even though the main idea is about time travel) it was real. Just two people who loved eachother and went through regular problems in a relationship, but none of that mattered because they obviously truly loved each other.

scastilloxbx, you would really kill yourself over love? Something that, if you decided not to kill yourself, you could possibly stop feeling? Or start feeling again for an entirely different person?

That aside, Romeo and Juliet is the most cliche story anyone can put under this thread. They were teenagers. Now I'm not saying teenagers "don't know what love is", but how can they, or anyone for that matter, truly believe they love someone so much that there would be no way they could survive without them. That they wouldn't eventually find love again? They were idiots.

You're not going to get laid, so you might as well come listen to some music.

Of all time?

Pride and Prejudice: Mr. Darcy and Lizzie. It's the original boy and girl can't stand each other then fall in love story! Classic! And the characters were amazing.

Modern love story?

Maybe Jim and Pam of The Office. Such a sweet, realistic love story.

Also Ruth and Idgie in Fried Green Tomatoes. Best friends who just love each other to death.
