Benny and Joon?
no seriously I have to say Romeo and Juliet, as I am named after her....
But at the moment I'm reading "Imajica" by Clive Barker, and the love story of Gentle and Jude is pretty intriguing, spanning two centuries and many adversities to encounter each other over and over
~Just another freak in the freak kingdom.~
I agree with the posters who do NOT think Romeo and Juliet is a true love story. It's not. It's about lust and teenage rebellion. We aren't saying its not a great play, it is!
I have to admit The Notebook is an amazing love story.
Other ones: Harold and Maude, Say Anything, and Walk the Line, even moreso because it's true... 50 First Dates is also a good, albeit random, one.
Even though they are TV relationships, I am going to have to also go with Jim and Pam (The Office) and Miranda and Steve (Sex and the City)
There you go, none of those are tragedies, for the person who was complaining about that! ;)
Brian and Justin.
Queer as Folk.
I agree with most of these but what about Forrest Gump?
that's a great love story

Twelveth Night is a bit off when it comes to the brother and his lady, but it's a great love story if you only think about the sister and her military man. I mean, the brother falls in love without knowing anything about the lady (I cannot recall any of the names...), and the lady in turn forgets that she actually was madly in love with the sister dressed as a man. Love is fickle if you can switch between siblings just because they look similar enough. The sister and her man, though, they're the real thing. The poor man thinks he's going gay because of his extreme attraction to what he thinks is a young man. I'm going to have to watch that play/film again soon. It's really enjoyable.
Romeo and Juliet is a love story. Allthough they are just kids, and most of us find out that love is more than the lust we felt as kids, they still believe it's the one true love of their lives, making it love. If they only wanted to boink each other, death was not necessary. They wanted to be able to be together for ever, without their families' bloodlust. It might have been puppy love, but that's still love.
Anyway, the greatest love story ever told? When Harry met Sally. Or It Happened One Night. Or The Philadelphia Story. Or...
I guess what I'm saying is that a great love story needs to have it's complications, obstacles, to make it great. Nobody ever writes songs about love that comes easily. There's a reason for that.
The love between Jenny and Forrest wasn't the same for each other.
shareIf I had to choose a book it would be Pride & Prejudice all the way! It is perfect!
As far as movies though... I would have to say Casablanca or even Roman Holiday.
For me its the love in CASABLANCA..pure, scacrificing and non-selfish
2nd is WALL-E great innocent love
and finally most people might not agree with me but the chemistry and pairing of Hugh Grant/Drew Barrymore in MUSIC AND LYRICS was cute...
Why so Serious ?
Januarie and May... Only kidding =)
Jean Valjean and Cosette? Isn't romantic love though...
George and Martha? - "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"
Only the meek get pinched. The bold survive.
"Brokeback Mountain"
shareAnakin and Padme is the most tragic. Topping even Romeo and Juliet.
shareAh, I am a Moulin Rouge fan. And Princess Bride.
But one that hasn't been mentioned yet... Logan and Veronica! From Veronica Mars. Goodness, watch the Epic scene and tell me that's not amazing. (LoVe!!)
Jane and Mr. Rochester, I have to agree.
I was never a big fan of Pride and Prejudice. Mr. Darcy is a criminally underdeveloped character, the same flaw that Edward suffers from in Twilight. At least Elizabeth is awesome though.
I really need to watch Casablanca.
Oh my there is so many...
Obviously, Romeo and Juliet. And then there's Titanic. You CANNOT forget that...and wuthering heights with Heathcliff and Catherine (although I've never seen the movie) Oh and then there's every single couple from ever single book Nicholas Sparks has ever written...Oh my.
But if I had to pick just one, I'd go with Titanic.
