Could Be One Of The Worst Films Ever Made!

When I came to this section of IMDB, I fully expected this movie to be panned, but I was wrong. Now, not to deny anyone else their opinion, but what the hell? This was one of the worst acted, worst written, worst directed, poorly cast, badly conceived films ever made. I can't fathom how anyone...I mean anyone could like this movie. To be fair, I try to find something to enjoy in even the worst of films, but this movie lowered the IQs of everyone I know who watched it. I want my IQ points back!!!

You seem to be a secret admirer of Bilal's work, wallowing in depression and narcissism in your spare time while browsing through his comic books. You have the right to do that not only because you catch a glimpse of your own reflection in his work, but also because you inadvertently enjoy his aesthetics. He's a remarkable artist, after all.

I was also surprised by the amount of praise given to this movie by other IMDBrs, it's like the world turned upside down for a moment. I liked some of the shots, but the rest of the movie (from acting to writing) was down right bad. I think most movies that have a narrative prologue are doomed, except for DUNE; but that’s debatably bad where this movie is just trash.

How can you call Dune, one of the great masterpieces of David Lynch and Frank Herbert(since he saw the movie and liked it)a bad movie. Well if Sci-fi is not your playground, dear friend stick to the chronicles of Riddick, or the new version of Solaris, with Clooney in it.

Immortel comes to show what French movies ar all about, i.e. innovation, avantgardisme, true art. the only other movie I could state as an equal in artistic impression would probably be Casshern. It is a visual masterpiece and the fact that they blended cgi with what we would call real(what is real anyway?)in a seamless fashion. The story itself is not an action packed story, since the point of the movie is not to keep us clinging to the edge of our sofa, but to make us think about the fact that soon we might become what we saw in that movie, it talk about technological dependence, and its consequences. the whole Iq talk is irrelevant, irritating and immature at best, an intelligent person does not have to tell other people he is intelligent, but this is just my humble opinion.

disecting it in such a cruel way may result in giving int negative publicitiy, but this movie does not deserve it, considering the fact that it is a movie for the intellect and the senses as well(aesthetically, and auditorially pleasing) while most of the nowadays CGI movies are just the latter. those looking for a 2 hour movie with lots of wanton sex and huge explosions should avoid this at all cost. however those that do think with their brains, and enjoy this activity, I reccomend it to you

I caught this on the Sci-Fi channel on what must have been a bad day. Afterwards, I came here to see what everyone else thought. And I must agree with manwithpez. THIS MOVIE SUCKED. For all the reasons he stated. I felt like I was watching (and I must admit great) video game cut sequences mixed with live action. A lot like like Roger Rabbit w/o Jessica Rabbit.

Sure I read everyone elses posts in all the other forums here. The ones supporting and canning the rape aspect. The ones claiming "Artistic greatness" and all the others, but when you boil it down, the movie absolutely sucked.

Yeah, I hate to say "sucked" too..its too generic. But to make this as clear as possible:
Do not watch this movie!

Later all

Came here to find out the movie was based on a comic book, no wonder this movie was difficult to understand when not distracted by the bad and odd mix match of live actors and cgi puppets. Learning that this is a French made film it made all the more sense that the graphic artistry seemed halfway finished, how can the French employees get anything done on a 35 hour work week?

Now I can deal with the bad animation, that doesn’t bother me. The story itself seems all over the place. What was the point of senator Allgood? He added nothing to the story. Same goes for other characters popping up now and then serving no purpose except maybe to give tired explanations. It’s like they’re greek chorus to give information to the audience and it’s a very lazy form of story telling. How about showing and not telling?

but when you boil it down, the movie absolutely sucked
Sums it up nicely.

Sucked or not sucked this thread is now 2 years old...says something about the movie. Personally I liked it for many reason and all the little flaws are easily overlooked but by all means keep discussing it. Thats what movies are suppose to do.

a6a6 has a good point this movie is hard to understant expecially if you do not know the work of bilal a priori, but it do not takes away iq points on the contrary it makes you think, not only in the visual but also on aspects as rape, what makes us humans? is it the body? about people having contracts that allows a company the use of their bodies. acting was not good i agree; but it is hard to act and imagine the escenery at the same time look at captain sky it has the same trouble and you can not complain much about the casting. besides it is a graphic novel; which means the visual is more important than almost anything else.

This "movie" was so crap I only watched it for 10 minutes!
And I ussually watch every movie to the last bleeping second,
but this just outstands being "a bit bad".
And what about that animation?
I didn't know if it were real people or if I could suddenly expect Mickey Mouse showing up saying we were in the wrong movie!
(I wish he would have shown up, so I could block that first 10 minutes-
that had been taken from my life and watch something more intellectual than
this utterly useless piece of garbage)
I couldn't understand why this has been given a rating of 6.0?!

Thank God we only payed 2Euros, but it was my worst spend money...

This movie was unbelievably horrible from start to finish.

I fully agree with all of the past negative comments so no need to repeat was has already been said. However, I would like to make one comment about the mvie that has only lightly been touched on up to now. Why did the director have CGI 'human' actors at all? Wouldn't it have been cheaper to hire a bunch of no-name actors to play those parts? Mixing real actors with the CGI characters was ruly awful. I felt like I was watching cut sequences in a video game at times.

Also, watch the making of on the DVD - truly ridiculous. The director assembled some retarded team to create dozens of unique software apps to create some of the 3D imagery when they just should have hied ILM at Lucas Films to do the work properly.

The story was still so horrible that no amount of fixing will ever make this a movie worth watching.

In the night...In the DARK...

I agree, this was bad. Maybe not IQ points bad, but barely watchable. I like the visuals, neat idea, but it was poorly executed. The story was hard to follow if you were unfamiliar with the comic. It was jarring to go from CGI to actor back to CGI. The dialogue was cold, in both delivery and writing. Not a movie I'll watch again.

People have such high expectations for movies god damn no wonder its so hard for amateur filmmakers to break into Hollywood

I found this movie to be quite enjoyable, French films always have the mesmerizing quality that I appreciate. At the very least it was better than the last 3 star wars movies

I admit, there were some pretty leaden and awkward moments. But you did get the feeling of visiting a very strange and exotic future and seeing characters far removed from your normal conception of "human" who still managed to express very human longings and fears. Bilal isn't one to make happy, cheery stories, and the movie actually did a very good job of conveying his vision. It's just that his vision might not translate as well in 3 dimensions and live actors as the film might have hoped.
