Could Be One Of The Worst Films Ever Made!

When I came to this section of IMDB, I fully expected this movie to be panned, but I was wrong. Now, not to deny anyone else their opinion, but what the hell? This was one of the worst acted, worst written, worst directed, poorly cast, badly conceived films ever made. I can't fathom how anyone...I mean anyone could like this movie. To be fair, I try to find something to enjoy in even the worst of films, but this movie lowered the IQs of everyone I know who watched it. I want my IQ points back!!!

Ok, you can have both of your IQ points back.

I was not impressed with this movie at all. I love science fiction and fantasy movies but this movie disp painted me despite the average score on IMDB. I was expecting something a bit better than this.

Reasons why I dislike this film are as follows:

1. Poor dialogue. Sometimes it made me laugh when I don't believe that was the director's and screen writers intention.

2. Acting was mediocre by many of the actor's, especially the CGI characters. It was late 90s video game cut scene quality.

3. Not only were the voice overs of late 90s video game cut scene quality, so was a lot of the CGI, especially the characters. I don't care whether this is an alleged deliberate visual contrast. I doubt it is as why would the motion and lip synching also be so poor?

4. Most importantly the story had too many loose ends and didn't develope or poorly executed many of the ideas (of which there were possibly too many).

5. Spoiler - the rape aspect was really poorly written, acted and simply just not handled well overall.

Would I say this was one of the worst films ever? No, but certainly one of the worst movies I've seen in the budget range. 22 million isn't a lot for what they were trying to achieve but budget doesn't have to mean bad acting, poor dialogue and undeveloped ideas. The budget really only explains the relatively poor CGI. Moon shows what a sci-fi film can be with a modest budget as does Monsters. I can appreciate the content and style of these movies may not be to everyone's taste but at least they were well made.

I simply could not recommend this movie to anyone, even my die hard sci-fi loving friends and family.

@andrewhollingsworth:
I agree with a lot of what you wrote. Personally, I can forgive a lot of the bad aspects, such as the CGI (especially the frequently flawed animation). It was odd though, that some parts were executed considerably worse than others. I'm guessing this was budget-related. (Im thinking specifically of the explosions, the animation of the penguins, all the scenes with the Senator and his "aide". Those are the worst that come to mind). But still, this could all be taken in stride, if the movie were to deliver otherwise. Unfortunately it does not.

What is unforgivable, imho, is the terrible script. I'm assuming that it was originally written in French (or maybe another language), but at any rate, what they made of it in English is really a mess. Unintentional comedy.
The editing was not ideal, either, because it often caused confusion rather than helping to clarify an already pretty convoluted story.

Speaking of the story: this needed cleaning up, not just through better editing and scripting, but through better writing to begin with.

At any rate, I wanted to like it, and with a fair number of script- and directing- tweaks, this could even have been somewhat decent, but as it stands, I couldn't give it more than 2/10.

Uninteresting, disjointed, boring, poorly executed, a mess. And the CGI? Good God.

🐺 Boycott movies that involve real animal violence (& their directors) 🐾

thank God the director is out of job since 2004!!!

And this movie is kinda good, OK, the 3D is bad, even for the time... but it wasn't a Star Wars budget... and the acting is bad...

BUT

This was inventive, fresh... since 2004 we had so many movies that are just the same crap over and over... I gave 7 for the effort...
