movies that are very good but you don't want to see again

this is one of mine. another is children of men. both are so grim, almost painful to watch. maybe also stalingrad, although it isn't as good a film as the other two. watching all 3 in a row would require prozac.

1- Grave of the Fireflies
2- Awakenings
3- Martyrs
4- 21 Grams
5- Mystic River

Antichrist
Have not seen anyone post that yet. After watching that movie it haunts me everyday

"Changeling" sticks out to me atm, the entire theme and the detailed depiction of children getting hacked to death was a bit too much for me. As a film I thought it was really well done, but I don't want to see it again
Some others: Requiem For A Dream, Irreversible, When the Wind Blows

There are some horror films that I thought were good but I don't want to see again either, like American Psycho, Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Exorcist, SAW, Audition

One I saw a long time ago was The House of Sand and Fog. I think perhaps I actually DID watch it twice, but was unable to see it a third time. A lot of the time it's movies that have surprising endings that become ruined for you once you know how they end, that don't feel worth sitting through again.

What this post made me think of initially is something I saw recently (but had to look up because the name had escaped me) - Incendies. I might yet watch it again some time, but it will definitely be a while.

Requiem for a Dream.. its a beautiful film, but is extremely depressing

reply

This was great, but it was extremely depressing and will probably give me nightmares.

There's never been a movie that I never want to watch again at some point. But there are definitely those that I've waited 5 or more years before I could bring myself to re-watch. I'm the type of person who likes very emotional books and movies.

Requiem for a Dream and Children of Men were great movies that I can't bear to watch again anytime soon either.

Others that come to mind off the top of my head:
Irreversible - so incredibly disturbing.
21 Grams
Spring 1941 - another heartbreaking holocaust movie.
Blue Valentine - this one I can rewatch but I still cry like a baby every time.
Never Let Me Go - goes for the book and film.
Dogville

I've been doing a recent review of films from 2004, 2003, & 2002.

In the last week I have seen Dogville, Mystic River, 21 Grams, Irreversible and I'm watching The Pianist right now.

The only one of those I will never watch again is Irreversible. (2nd time I saw it, the camera work is just too nauseating to watch again as are the horrific moments)

The rest have been nominated for best picture (Drama) on my own personal awards list. (20 years running)
Other Films that I've nominated for Best Picture that have been mentioned on this thread:

Natural Born Killers
Seven
Saving Pvt. Ryan
Requiem for a Dream
Dancer in the Dark
A.I.
Mystic River
21 Grams
Dogville
Passion of the Christ
Munich
Children of Men
The Road

Right now the movie I saw in the last year that I don't think I'll watch for a good five years is "Inside". (Brutal French Horror Flick)

"I mostly cum at night, mostly."

Ugh! so many!
Dancer in the Dark - that movie just had me squirming I was so stressed out plus it made me bawl my eyes out.
Passion of the Christ - all around sad and just so violent!
Wide Sargasso Sea
Swept Away - LOL! I know the movie tanked but as bad as it was, I felt as though it got better in the last half and I thought the ending was kind of touching.
The Green Mile
Beaches - this movie KILLS ME!
My Girl - You all know it, so sad it's almost traumatizing.
Life is Beautiful
Mystic River
Million Dollar Baby
Pay it Forward
A.I. Artificial Intelligence - Bittersweet ending and an overall underrated movie.

There's prolly more but I don't want this to get too long.

Dancer in the Dark for sure
Antichrist as well if we're on von Trier films. Funny Games, I just didn't like the feel of it, it was like I was about to throw up, but I still liked the movie.
The Virgin Spring, just...too hard to stay interested on the second viewing.

I agree about those and as mentioned earlier, Lilja 4-Ever and The Road.
Would like to add The Warzone. Very good but VERY disturbing. Biutiful was depressing as well. Padre Padrone (shivers).....
