this is one of mine. another is children of men. both are so grim, almost painful to watch. maybe also stalingrad, although it isn't as good a film as the other two. watching all 3 in a row would require prozac.
This was such a haunting movie. I could not see myself watching it again. I think what makes it so difficult is the realization that this did happen. Sad. There is definitely one movie I could never watch again and that is Funny Games. It is highly disturbing and frightening. If you've never seen it, beware. It's not what you'd expect.
I guess I'm into dark films because there is barely any very good movie I wouldn't watch again because of its content. Of course, I have to be in the right MOOD to watch movies like The Pianist or Schindler's List, but I'll watch them again for sure some day: both are great examples of a director at the top of their games. That being said, it will take a lot for me to ever wacth Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom again; this movie was a genuinely painful experience to sit through and though well directed and somehow pertinent, it's just a deeply depressing and shocking movie. Aside from this one, any genuinely very good movie I ever saw always finds it way back in my DVD player one day, no matter how dark or sad or shocking it is. I actually plan on seeing The Pianist again in the near future. I also have yet to see Sophie's Choice, and the comments left on this message board only encourage me to see it soon. The thing is, I actually love being challenged and moved by a movie if I'm in the right mood; movies can have a very cathartic effect on me, believe it or not, and there have been instances where I actually welcomed a movie which could moved me to the point of tears because I needed it. Does anybody feel the same way or is it just me?
Bill Foster: I'm the bad guy?...How did that happen?
Platoon immediately came to mind. It's a good movie, but the hell that the soldiers go through in Vietnam is just awful to watch. I'll probably get around to watching it again eventually, but for now, once was enough!
Strangely enough this is on my list of movies I can watch over and over. It does look kind of strange wedged in there with movies like groundhog day, Shawshank Redemption and Office Space. Even with the heavy subject matter I love it more and more every time I watch it.
Synedoche NY is the most depressing film I've ever seen. So heavy and downbeat from the start. At least The Pianist and other films mentioned in this thread had some positivity either at the end or at some point
The Road is the ultimate "good movie that I never want to see again." I got depressed and couldn't get the movie out of my head for days. I still get uneasy thinking about it. Despite being a very well made film, I regret watching it.
