movies that are very good but you don't want to see again

this is one of mine. another is children of men. both are so grim, almost painful to watch. maybe also stalingrad, although it isn't as good a film as the other two. watching all 3 in a row would require prozac.

I probably won't watch The Pianist again. But I agree with others that The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is much more depressing. That's one that I could never watch twice.

Bambi. I know it sounds stupid, but I only got through the mother's death scene once when I was 18 (couldn't watch it at all when I was a kid), and I don't think I could ever watch it again. Yes, it's animation, but it still got to me.

Maybe I'm a sadist or a depressive but there's honestly not a single movie that I find to be good I would never watch again (including the ones mentioned by everyone else). In fact, I enjoy watching these types of movies. Maybe "enjoy" isn't the right word, but I find it hard to not want to give something another look when I appreciate its artistic or emotional value so much, no matter how depressing it is.

In a way, it's nice to delve into the deepest, darkest corners of humanity. To me, when I feel low, there's nothing worse than listening to a happy song or watching a comedy. That's because the message doesn't sympathize with my current predicament. I don't want to hear about how great love is after I just broke up with my girlfriend. But when I'm having a crappy day and come home to watch a movie like Schindler's List, it puts things in perspective and reinforces the belief that things could be worse and to be appreciate of what I'm given. Cliched idea, but it holds truth for me.

I agree with you Jack. I really enjoy the dark stuff as well. Even if a film disturbs me, I will usually go back for at least a second dip. I can safely say that after watching Bully (2001) for a second time I will never watch it again, despite it being a film I enjoy discussing and recommending to friends.

A Serbian Film (2010) will not get a second viewing though. Complete waste of time.
