This is why the 90's was the best decade for movies!

Just look at the 90's for movies. It was incredible. The Insider, Goodfellas, Shawshank Redemption, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Braveheart, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, American Beauty, Casino, Seven, The Silence of the Lambs, Forrest Gump, JFK, The Usual Suspects, Malcolm X, Fargo, Unforgiven, American History X, Fight Club, Good Will Hunting...

The list goes on!! Each movie has some of the greatest acting in the history of film and television. It makes me want to cry when I see the tripe that they release at the cinemas today. What happened to good, decent movies? I don't want to watch a ****ing 3D movie. I want acting! I want good stories. I shouldn't have to watch a DVD just to see what a good movie is. I should be able to see it in my local cinema.

I know people always talk about the 70's and 80's when it comes to film but I'm sorry, none of them even stand close to the 90's. Bring back decent movies!!!

I disagree - the 80's were the new golden age of Hollywood - I have gone into this in detail on another board years ago so please just do some research .

1980 in the U.k. . . . anyway starting from there were many many classics. Far better than that junk you listed .

Heeeell no, 80's was the WORST decade of them all, for anything, movies, music, fashion, all garbage!

Why music? The 80s were as great as any other decade when it comes to music, just think of all the artists back than, and the crappy pop / rap we have nowadays...e.g.

The Smiths (one of the most influental bands ever), the Cure, U2, Brian Ferry, David Bowie... just to name a few.

David Bowie was a creature of the late 1960s and 1970s. Like many old timers in the early 1980s, MTV helped breathe new life into him. Besides, Bowie's work from the 70s blows away anything he did before or after.

Whilst I agree that the 70's was an amazing decade for film, I don't think it beats the 90's! During the 70's there was still a lot of restriction with regards to what they could show (violence, etc). The dialogue, which I believe is the most important element of any movie, just wasn't as fresh as it was in the 90's! Plus whilst Pacino and DeNiro became legends because of the 70's, I think their best roles were in the 90's!

But this is just my opinion of course :)

The late 60's and early 70's marked an extreme change in the film climate. That was when the studios had lost a lot of their power and indie productions rang in a new frat pack (including most of the ones you mentioned) of directors, who would rule Hollywood for decades to come.

That was the time when filmmakers stopped conforming to silly rules the studios had set up so as not to offend anyone in the audience. All of a sudden drugs were being smoked on the silver screen, and the characters didn't get the cannabis fever instantly, swearing became more prominent, gore and such started making an entrance in the sense that we think of it today. It was the new age of Hollywood and probably in retrospect the biggest paradigm shift the film business has seen since method acting. You forgot Dennis Hopper, Peter Bogdanovich, and Steven Spielberg to name a few.

The 90's were a great film decade, but so were the 2000's, but for the overall quality of film I don't think any decade has had such a profound impact as the 70's.

I agree, the 90's had the best movies. Although I did love Scarface, the amount of great movies produced in the 90's outweigh any other decade of films. FACT

No, that's not true. It depends on when you were born. Are you expressing opinion, or are you an authority? Considering Scarface as anything more that entertainment makes me suspicious. It's a fun movie, but it ain't art.

I wholeheartedly agree! The 90s were great! I almost love all movies from the 90s!

Don't forget all those nifty Bruce Willis flicks:
Last Boy Scout (most certainly the BEST dialog based action movie in movie history. tarantino is nothing compared to this!)

yeah, just watched it with the wife again. i loved it when it came out but loved it twice as much now. so many things happening in the world since, made it quite compelling.

You list some great movies. The Insider is up there with top 90s movie. However, every decade has a great list of movies. I'd say the 40s and 50s blow the 90s out of the water. I'd have to put in some thinking time to rank each decade.

I'd go as far as to say that even the last decade has had some great movies. That's my opinion, it's conjecture, much like this entire thread.

1970's-The French Connection
1980's-Rain Man
1990's-Se7en
2000-2010- Traffic
2011-present - The Hurt Locker

there has been wonderful movies in every decade, there has been terrible movies in every decade... get over yourself
