This is why the 90's was the best decade for movies!

Just look at the 90's for movies. It was incredible. The Insider, Goodfellas, Shawshank Redemption, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Braveheart, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, American Beauty, Casino, Seven, The Silence of the Lambs, Forrest Gump, JFK, The Usual Suspects, Malcolm X, Fargo, Unforgiven, American History X, Fight Club, Good Will Hunting...

The list goes on!! Each movie has some of the greatest acting in the history of film and television. It makes me want to cry when I see the tripe that they release at the cinemas today. What happened to good, decent movies? I don't want to watch a ****ing 3D movie. I want acting! I want good stories. I shouldn't have to watch a DVD just to see what a good movie is. I should be able to see it in my local cinema.

I know people always talk about the 70's and 80's when it comes to film but I'm sorry, none of them even stand close to the 90's. Bring back decent movies!!!

How old is the OP? Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed The Insider. It's a decent movie, but to jump to the conclusion that the 90s was the best decade for movies is silly. The 70s gets that honor.

I have to agree with you there. I've always enjoyed the 90's most for film. They were technically superior to older films, but they hadn't yet been destroyed by CGI. Great stories, great acting. Just great film-making. I can't wait for 3D to die out.

lets just all agree on this: Pre-2000 and especially in the 70's, 80's and 90's blockbusters with huge actors and budgets were made and they were good some even great. Today you have to watch indie film to get a good movie, 99% of blockbusters today are either crap or worse. That is what i miss, a good EPIC movie like heat that has big names, big scenes (like that post bank shootout). Today it's all computer and the few human actors playing in those movies are 0.5 dimensional. NO depth at all.

The real crime however is that the general public (youth of today SADDENS me) accepts this, neigh they WANT it and defend it here on IMDB.... i mean how on earth can ANYONE defend transformers 3, POTC 4, iron man 2 and the list goes on. How did they corrupt the youth to such a level.
People are getting dumber, all i can say.

I'm mostly with you James_Senior.

70's, 80's, 90's I wont argue which decade of those three produced the best movies. I think the obvious is, since then, the industry is churning out crap. So I repeat what you stated - bring back decent movies!

HEAT, how could you forget the greatest of all!

How about "The Siege"?

*Cough* Saving Private Ryan *Cough*

90s ftw.

edit: As Good As It Gets!

Heat is in my top 10 movies of all time so I can't believe I forgot to list it. It just backs up my claim I guess. And to answer the person who mockingly asked my age I'm 25 and I never said the 70's and 80's weren't good decades for movies. There's nothing wrong with differing opinions.

I know this one is old but when I read this thread I just cracked up ^^Richimorton ftw

the 80's were the new golden age of Hollywood

Starting at A : Alien 1980 in the U.k.

When you are so young, it's easy to forget your "favorites." Much more difficult to convince others of your authority. It'll be a few more years before you will be welcome at the adult table.

the usual suspects, magnolia, boogie nights, kevin smith movies, glengarry glen ross, philadelphia, rushmore, as good as it gets, eyes wide shut, etc..

yeah i would definitely say that the 90's was the best time for movies

Terminator 2????

I dunno about comparing decades...but 1984 was actually the best year for film. Had all kinds of movies... http://popwatch.ew.com/2009/07/25/was-1984-the-greatest-year-in-movies-ever/

I liked As Good As It gets, but the rest? Nothing here that gets even 3 stars. Magnolia? Pretentious, and extremely dated. Kevin Smith films are entertaining only when you are stoned. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
