Preston Was A Weird Ass Stalker, Let's Be Real!

Carrying around a whack job note after obsessing about this girl for years!!!??? Yeah she'd read it and fall for him! Right! Try it yourself! Get a good lawyer too!

How was he a stalker? Did you see him giving the note to Amanda? No, it was fate, that's what happened.

reply

He obsessed over her, but never really followed her around or interfered in her life at all. Don't you kinda of have to do that to be a stalker?

I can sort of relate to the character. Even though I didn't stalk the girls I liked, I still sort of got obsessed with them, I never had the guts to talk to them so it didn't matter anyways, but even though I don't really believe in love at first sight, growing up, I would get fixated on certain girls and thought I loved them. I guess I sort of did, it wasn't just a physical attraction, and a few of them I still think I do, but they would think I'm insane if I ever pulled a Preston and told them.

You know I checked this movie out last night. Been a very long time since I've seen it, and said why not I'll watch it.

It's really not that bad of a movie, except the entire Preston/Amanda storyline is flat out cheesy, dumb, lazy, and just flat-out unrealistic. The entire plot is just bad and painful to watch.

So he falls in love with the most beautiful girl in school. A girl he has neither A.) talked to before and B.) doesn't know anything about her. And he spends his entire high school obsessing about her and writing love letters to her. That's not unrealistic, I'm sure plenty have done it. Okay that is fine. Admit it Preston, you got a chubby and just wanted to slip her the hot sausage though.

I wouldn't call him a stalker, but more like an uptight naive guy that just didn't get laid in high school(not that there's anything wrong with that).

And it's even more ridiculous that she'd read this letter, and automatically fall for him after spending years not even knowing who he was. And literally two minutes talking to him. A conversation that couldn't be more simulating than talking to the mailman.

Was she on the rebound that badly? Was she that desperate? Or was the writers honestly trying to sell this as a romance plot to the movie?

It would be one thing if the movie played the entire storyline more off as a satire and for laughs. But it was suppose to be taken seriously! Moral of the movie. If you coincidentally share the same pop tarts it must be fate! If you can write romantic and heartfelt letters to women who have know idea who you are, they can fall madly in love with you too!

That entire storyline almost single handily ruins a not so bad teen comedy.

preston didn't look like brian peppers so obviously it's not stalking

Yes, it was weird, not romantic. You also cannot love someone you do not know. A crush, yes, but not love.

True as *beep*.

Preston was a pretty cool guy for the record. A good and loyal friend. I think he just lusted after Amanda.

He was a typical naive high school kid. You see a beautiful girl that's out of your league. You fantasize being with them, and you think you know them better than others after fantasizing after them four years like he did. He had an infatuation with her, but that's all it was.

I think Preston's intentions meant well though. And lord knows that he was a better guy than Mike. So in the moment given what Amanda had been through with Mike? It's not out of the question she might at least be curious to get to know Preston.

I've come up with the theory that maybe Preston is on the autism spectrum. Preston is clearly nice and bright guy who never the less, doesn't have a firm grasp of social cues. Preston naively thinks that after not speaking or coming into contact (how come Preston wasn't proactive enough to try to speak to her during that time frame anyway) with Amanda throughout all of high school that his letter will just magically turn her to his side.
