Preston Was A Weird Ass Stalker, Let's Be Real!

Carrying around a whack job note after obsessing about this girl for years!!!??? Yeah she'd read it and fall for him! Right! Try it yourself! Get a good lawyer too!

reply

lol that's pretty true. In real life, most people would be freaked out by that and plus, how can he know they're meant to be when he doesn't even know her?

reply

prestons the biggest pussy ever. in real life hot girls dont want anything to do with a pathetic dork like him.

reply

Yeah, I've had my fill of weird stalker-type guys. My last boyfriend was a total nut case (and I include the fact he wrote me love letters) so if a guy gave me one of those I'd run a mile.

reply

True, had this been real life Preston and Amanda never would have gotten together, but I wouldn't really say he was a weird ass stalker. He didn't build shrines to her or spy on her from a distance every night or anything, he just felt a connection with her and thought she was his true love. Sure in some ways that could be considered weird, but you've also go to consider that Amanda had just broken up with someone that had treated her like *beep* and also had just gone through getting harrassed by dozens of guys that just wanted to have sex with her. So when Preston comes up with that letter, which contained pure emotion and explained his feelings for her, not just "you're hot, let's *beep* she changed her ways and decided to go for love rather than looks and lust. Not very realistic, but hey, it's a movie, and a damn fine one at that.

But isn't that the great thing about movies? Making things that wouldn't normally happen, happen? Pshhh I must be the only one who's attracted to Preston then. His eyes, I mean come on, and he's totally nice. I'd date him any day.

Cute or not, he was a weird-ass stalker.

I am sure I am getting way too deep for a teen funny movie, BUT having said that- I always thought the whole point was that Amanda wouldn't have liked Preston or truly appreciated the letter at any other time than right at the moment she found it and him.
Remember her talking about how now high school is over and the things that seemed so very important for the last 4 years weren't anymore? It was at that moment someone like Preston and the things he wrote in the letter suddenly became special and important. If it had happened any time before that party, she'd have probably dismissed him as a stalker/freak (like she did initially actually!).
Again, I thought that was kind of the whole point of their story-line.

You better understand I'm in love with myself Myself My beautiful self

reply

That is true. Amanda would not have given him the time of day anytime before that party. I don't think Preston was weird or creepy and I know he meant well, but it would've been slightly more impressive if he had actually exchanged a conversation with her before writing that letter.

I wouldn't say he was a stalker. He was a guy who just really genuinly LIKED her. He didn't follow her around, sit outside her house, call her constantly, harrass her, or any of the other traditional stalker behavior. Even in areas where they have strict stalker laws, I doubt his actions would have even warrented a restraining order.

Like someone already said, she was wounded after being dumped by a jerk that she had been dating for 4 years, got sexually harrassed by several guy just wanting a one night stand with her, then read a letter written by someone who genuinly liked her, and wasn't just trying to get into her pants. The fact that he had been carrying the letter around for 4 years showed that he was in some way devoted to her.

No, I would say it showed that he was obsessed with someone he didn't even know and had developed a psychotic fixation with her. He carried a letter around for 4 years???!!!!! Does that sound anywhere near normal to you??? He sounds like John Hinckley!

reply

i dont get why he should be called a stalker...he was just shy to talk to her, thats all!

reply

Ok! In any case he was a head case for carrying a love letter around addressed to some girl who didn't know he existed.

reply

was he really carrying it around for four years? i thought he had just written it recently.

"Oh my God, what a horrible photograph. My first wanted poster and I look just awful."

reply

After Seeing this movie it inspired me to write a letter and give it to this girl I have been dreaming of all my life to be with and she got freaked out and her bf kicked my ass.. So lame, I was so stupid, and this happen a few weeks ago and I am 30 haha jk no it happened it jr.high

reply

lol@ her bf kicking his ass

reply

Yes, it is fairly unrealistic but one can argue that Amanda wanted to be with somebody genuine. Her boyfriend really had nothing to offer but popularity which in the end means nothing. Also her friends were really fake and I could see them stabbing her in the back at any moment.

Preston was genuine and she needed somebody who appreciated her for who she is. PLus is makes for a good ending to the movie. LOL

reply

Apparently none of you have ever been too shy to admit to your crush that you like them.

For crying out loud, he's not a freaking stalker type. He just never got the courage to tell the girl he liked her.

I'm not psycho, just a little loopy.

How was he a stalker? All he did was write a love letter about a girl he had a crush on for a couple of years. He didnt go outside her window and watch her from a distance. He didnt call her and make random noices when she answered. He didnt follow her every where she went. He wasnt a stalker, just someone who didnt have the courage to tell her how he felt.

If you guys payed attention during the movie every guy was trying to date or try to have sex or something with her becuase she was superhot. Preston was different and liked her for who she was he was trying to get with her just for sex. That is why she fell for him because she met someone who likes her just for her.

My god you guys are morons.

reply

I would have thought total stalker as in "Look, we both know this is going to end badly so why I don't I just give you all my dirty underwear know to save time. Oh, and I'll stuff my own body into your crawlspace. Thank you."

That being said, the love story was more than a little forced. She being vapid miss popularity and suddenly showing up at the train station after reading his note. It just seems like she liked the attention.

Stalker guy would make a decent rebound guy.

Funny and true, but this is a story about fate and karma, not legalities and reason.
