4. OK horror movie

It’s a so-so horror trying to capitalise on the craze started by the far superior Scream. Interestingly, its strength comes from the mystery and the guilt-ridden purgatory that the group find themselves in. As a horror it’s actually quite tame, with far less gore and menace than Scream.

Unfortunately the reveal is uninspired and muddled, nothing like the twisted revelations at the end of Scream. It was actually an earlier script from Kevin Williamson and it lacks the wit and cunning of his Screamplays, playing it much more straight.

But, the cast are a treat, and it’s nice to see a horror from that great era when the filmmakers had some respect for the intelligence of the audience and, of course, no insulting woke agenda.

Ryan Phillippe was the funniest part of this movie.. Dude had me in stitches when they hit that guy and he lost his shit over his BMW being damaged more than caring about the fishermen they just ran over.. LOL

He was hilarious in this, overacting to the max but doing a good job of it. I used to not like Phillipe but he's a decent actor.

I mean, no kidding when I say I purchased this on Blu Ray just for that guy alone.. It was a pretty good 90's slasher, but making 2 more after that really stretched it.. The "Fisherman" wasn't exactly like Jason or Michael Myers to warrant coming back 2 more times

Indeed. That’s the one area that I Know beats Scream - cast hotness.

I wouldn’t change the casting of Scream because it’s perfect, but between a threesome with Hewitt and Geller or Campbell and McGowan? HewGel wins every time.

Well the movie kinda sucks, but it's a masterpiece compared to the sequels. The 3rd movie is so bad you should watch it because it's the perfectly example of how NOT to make a sequel.

1) and 2) were so much good enough for me that I only watched the scenes she was in, and tried to piece together what was happening.

I'll give you a good reason - it was by far the best movie of the late 90s teen slasher craze. Don't waste your time with the other crap films like Urban Legend, watch this one.

This movie had an interesting story, an atmospheric setting and some decently written characters. Ryan Phillipe played an ott douche that was funny to watch, and Sarah Michelle Gellar never looked better. Jennifer Love Hewitt was a good lead as well. Anne Heche had a memorable cameo, too.

This film has only gotten better. The sequel was fucking shit, though.

I actually slightly preferred the sequel, it was more thrilling despite the absence of number 3 on my list. I haven’t seen 3 and don’t plan to.

Jack Black of all people plays a victim in the sequel. That's all I remember, that and Julie's boyfriend is revealed to be the killer (which you were meant to think in the first one).

The third installment -- "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer" -- was straight-to-video and therefore lacks the polish of the first two. You'll particularly notice this with the weak pacing and the lesser acting talents of the cast. Despite these flaws, it's a worthwhile addition to the series because, like the first sequel, they completely switch the location, this time to a ski resort in the mountains of Colorado (albeit shot in Utah). I can't think of any other film that takes place in this environment (in the Summer, that is) so it makes it stand out.

I also like how one of the teens, Zoe (Torrey DeVitto), plays in a grunge rock band and quite a bit of the runtime involves her band's practice pad in a barn or them playing out. Brooke Nevin as Amber is also a plus; she makes for a strong heroine and has a striking face. I further appreciate how the writers actually tied it to the previous two, which you wouldn't think they'd be able to do since it's an entirely different cast of characters in a completely different locale, not to mention it being almost ten years after the first movie.
