I think this movie is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen! I have to really pay attention because of the accents but the movie is just awesome!
This is my #1 all time favorite movie in the entire world, and I have lived in Michigan my entire life.
And I do agree with Gothmommy that Robert Carlyle is hot! I have thought that since I was like 11 and I found this movie in my parent's collection of videos.
I heard that this was a really good movie, but never saw it till last night. I am a "lukewarm" fan of british humor, but thought the film was very funny! I agree with most of the posts here that british humor is more "real" than in the U.S., which I find refreshing, but I always have a lot of trouble understanding the dialect and the British phrases - I'll have to watch it using Closed Caption next time. The surprise for me was seeing Dave Addy! I'm not sure what I saw him in before, but I've always liked him and thought he was really good in this movie! Unfortunately, it seems like Dave never quite made it over here, but I hope to see more of him in the future. Anyway, great movie! And I also loved the part where they are in line to get a job, and they start dancing!
Not american, Norwegian. But I love it. I hadn't watched it since 00 or something, and had almost forgotten how good this film is. I love how Lomper gets so happy whenever he realises someone likes him. And when Daves wife says that she wants to see him dance.... and everything really. And not to forget Robert Carlyle in the buff even though it is from behinf *grin*
And I watched it with english subs today, alot easier to understand than when I have norwegian subs, because then I get what the joke is in english and not what some translator thinks it should be in my language :)
I'm not a big fan of British comedy. In fact, I hate just about everything but Red Dwarf. That said, I LOVE this movie, and Calendar Girls too. I like the "plain folks are shy but then feel good" aspect. Mark Addy feeling sexy on stage and all. It's the empowerment thing, I guess.
Excellent movie, very well made, while some Americans might have problem with some British terms and such, the movie resonates really well with most people including myself. Loved it
