This is actually on of my favorite comedies ever and I've loved it from the first time I saw it. Anytime I hear the song "Hot Stuff" I think of the scene when they're all standing in line and it brings a smile to my face.
Yeah i'm from sheffield where this movie was filmed, they actually filmed a little scene on the road i used to live on. The part where horse uses the red telephone box, which was in fact only a prop.
It is a classic film, not only because of all the old sheffield scenery,(not many films filmed here - When Saturday Comes being another) but it was a low budget movie and is quite a good story.
PS: Robert Carlyle is Scottish but does a fine Sheffield accent, top quality.
I wish amricans would stop bragging that they love Monty Python just because they like some British films. Im english and I cant even stand monty python!
I read all of James Herriot's books before I saw the movie. Had I not learned Yorkshire dialect from the books, I doubt I could have understood the dialogue.
I just saw it for the first time. IM from New York and i loved it. I love British humour though. It makes me laugh way more than american humor. American humor is sex drugs and abuse. eh.. gets boring.
I am a native California girl (from San Francisco area, not LA area). I love, love this film. My mother loved this film. It is uplifting and enjoyable, with a wonderful soundtrack. My 18 year old daughter loves this film also. Still wonderful years after it was released.
While working in the aerospace industry we hired two German contractors. The conversation got around to accents. I mentioned to one of the Germans that it must be very difficult to understand the Scottish accent form up around the north Aberdeen area. He stated that it was actually easier to understand them then most other (American and English) accents. I always thought that was interesting.
