Astonishingly bad

I remember all the publicity when they made this and IMDb has many shots of the premiere and all the guests and big crowds. Don't know how I managed to avoid seeing it until now but I rather wish I'd not bothered. Most everyone in it is bad most of the time. I guess we can't blame the actors because they were just following direction and delivering the script - but it did none of them any favours and the two baddies were particularly bad. The style reminded me of the 1960s TV series and Mr Friezes car looked like something the A Team would have cobbled together from a VW Camper van and a bubble car. Ah well, I've rated it in IMDb now so at least I can avoid ever watching it again.

Yeah it’s bad, but there are moments that are actually somewhat funny (unintentionally of course).

Welp, let's find out.
Worlds collide as Bad Movie Night taps into Vee's rabid Batman fanbase.

Yep… This was the first & last movie I ever walked out of the theater on.
It was the scene where the bad guys were on ice skates that finished me off.

reply

THAT WAS THE FIRST SCENE.

reply

Hah Yep.

I saw this in the cinema. I'd enjoyed Batman and Batman Forever, and I loved Batman Returns, so I was really hyped for this. And it was utter garbage. I'd never felt so let down by a movie. I hated it then, I hate it now. I own all the other Batman movies. I will never own this one.

reply

Relax "Batman & Robin" fans. It's no longer the stupidest movie ever made, thanks to the new "Suicide Squad".

reply

I actually enjoyed the new Suicide Squad. Batman & Robin was a chore to sit through.

reply

Suicide Squad could get a Whedon edit and still be much better than Batman & Robin.

reply

THAT IS A FOOLHARDY STATEMENT...SUICIDE SQUAD WAS PRETTY DAMN GOOD.

reply

this is one of the most overly hated films ever made. yes, it's exactly like the 60's show, why is that bad????

reply

I don't think it is like the 60s show. It lurches in that direction but I suspect more by accident than design. If they'd made a deliberate decision to mimic, or at least reference, the 60s silliness it might have worked and been a more enjoyable film.

the campiness was definitely intentional, as was handed to schumaker by the studio executives. they had a lot of complaints that the earlier films were too dark and violent and wanted to be friendlier to the kid audiences, so schumaker was told to "make a cartoon". either way this film isn't that bad. it is stupid and corny, but 1 second of bat nipples and 1 second of bat credit card dont make this the worst film ever. it has good action and is incredibly entertaining. even arnold's ice puns made me laugh because they are bad in a way that's clearly intentional. i dont get why a moron like me is the only one who sees that. i dont even love the movie or anything, it is pretty lame honestly, but it's like a 5/10.

reply

I rated it 4/10 so we're not that far apart. For me 5/10 is poor but worth watching once whilst 4/10 tips into the - I've wasted my time category.

reply

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees the 'behind the scenes' mess that was involved in making this movie. I enjoyed it very much. my only complaint being I don't care for Batgirl and would prefer the movie without her but this version is probably my least hated version of her. I love the Bat Credit card jokes....I love Nostalgia Critic's hate for the Bat Credit Card jokes. I've seen much worse movies than this and it's probably the one Batman film I have watched more than any other one honestly. Call me a nerd, I don't care.

reply

It's only campy with the villains since they were portrayed as Joker knock offs with constant laughing, only the heroes were played straight. If it's like the Adam West show that take doesn't work for a modern film like this.
