Other movies that do a 180 half way through?
Topic.
shareContact with Jodie Foster pretty much did a 180 halfway through.
shareNight of the Creeps. Started off like a teen comedy and turned into a zombie movie midway through. I Love the move though, wish that was out on DVD.
Psycho. I agree with the other poster, it was the first film to do a 180 Janet Lee was big during that time, and when she was killed, it shocked audience, that never happend with a big name actress before on screen.
I Have say though Dusk till Dwan really was like 2 separate movies. You followed the characters for an hour of the film and then "pow" It become a Vampire survival movie. It is an abrupt change. It's cool side track to happen for two crooks on there was to mexico. I mean the whole move was setting the audience up to follow the characters to this town in mexico, and when they stop in the bar to await his contact, the whole movie changed, it's just too cool...that and I like table dancing sceen. ;)
from what i remember, employee of the month did this. it went from light hearted comedy to dark crime.
i'm looking at your face, and i just want to smash it...you're so pretty.

House of the dead-Went from sucking, to sucking REALLY bad.
brilliant, but im sure we could just say uwe boll and that would end it all before all of his movies started appearing on here for that!
Hey, I didn't know you got your tongue pierced - Joey - City Of The Dead
"Something Wild." Went from goofy comedy to crime/drama (with comic overtones) once Ray Liotta's character showed up (big surprise, eh?)
"You broke my f----in' sitar, motherf---er!"
- Anton Newcombe
Bump to whoever mentioned the Brotherhood of the Wolf
that is several genres rolled into 1, a melting pot of ideas. But it goes from being fairly steady and mysterious to violent and tense. Also Fronsac's character totally changes after****SPOILER******Mani is killed.
Hostel is another good example, as it goes from being easy going and semi comical to violent and disturbing
"cook the man some eggs!"
Hott Fuzz
Starts out as a funny police movie, then suddenly goes all Wicker Man.
Could someone explain to me how "Full Metal Jacket" has any kind of 180, or even a twist. They get drafted into the Marine Corps, they go to Boot Camp, They are told in Boot that most of them will go to Vietnam, some will not come back, They graduate **SPOILER** Pyle kills the D.I., then they go and fight in Vietnam. That seems pretty straight through to me. I went to war after I graduated basic, should I have expected something different?
Your injury is one of ignorance and pride.
I think the most blatant 180 I've seen is Sunshine. Most people didn't like the ending as much as everything before that, but I feel the opposite. Though I didn't particularly like any of it, really.
shareOk The Hole really does that. I mean it's like two completely different stories, and by the time you're into it, you're so engrossed you want to see the other half. What a weird creepy film :S
*I don't like Cricket*
And that's why I don't like cricket!
the simpsons do it almost every episode
shareMan on Fire
Disturbia (TERRIBLE movie though)
I have watched all the movies mentioned in this thread, none of them do a 180.
The original poster wants to know if there are any other movies where the genre completely flips half way thru and changes from one movie to a completely unexpected, different type of movie. Movies with a twist at the end don't count.
The ONLY movie that comes close to doing a 180 in the MIDDLE of the movie is THE DESCENT!!!
HOW about vertigo? Starts off as a love story/detective story, then all of a sudden becomes a much darker film
shareHard Candy
and if you don't know the plot I'd say Brokeback Mountain
I mentioned this in another thread, but I'd say Peter Jackson's the Frighteners to a degree. Goes from "guy making a living off ghosts" to "dark murder mystery...with ghosts".
Oldboy also "changes" to a degree...at least for our "revenge" hero.
I think From Dusk Til Dawn & Psycho are tops in the 'ol "180" genre.

OldBoy: 8/10

"Oldboy also "changes" to a degree...at least for our "revenge" hero."
Oldboy pissed me off.....I liked it until the end.
On the bed, on the floor, on a towel by the door, in the tub, in the car, up against the mini-bar
