Was this a time when race did not matter?

A time when film was free from virtue signaling, wokeness. race, evil whites? A time when you saw the person and not their genetic makeup? A time when whites wasn’t embarrassed to be white.

I don't know what you mean. Imo there was a concerted effort in film from the early 90s onward to show more camaraderie between white people and poc - Cool Runnings is another great example - because of the Los Angeles Riots of 1992, but it wasn't less "woke", people just weren't as sensitive about or as threatened by the presence of POC being in films as they are now. Remember when movies like Rush Hour, Blade and Romeo Must Die weren't even talked about in terms of race? No one was screaming about diversity, POC were accepted in film as leads and co-leads alongside white people.

2 OP - what makes you think that?

It was a time before the internet bred a generation of insecure highly racist keyboard warrior white boys who cry like snowflake babies whenever they see a black man on screen and start ranting about "woke agenda"
That (timing)is the only reason , if this came out now same asshats would be saying
" oh look big strong black man in lead role with puny white sidekick as his apprentice , its an attack on my masculinity , i is persecuted , why cant we go back to when all the men on tv were white - like in the 50s and black people were kept segregated and wernt allowed on the bus"

Well in 2024 white women loose control of their bladder when they see a black man on screen, at the mall or in the hood. They become instantly wet and ready for what will come next!

White guys don’t have the animalistic energy!
