The people who like this better than the first one are just looking for attention.

Or you're a nostalgia merchant.

reply

Okay, but I still like it better. Made me want to run away to a large city on someone else's dime and befriend a pigeon lady as a kid.

reply

I'm not sure if I was harsh on this post or not harsh enough.

reply

It's your opinion, you're entitled to it regardless of harshness level - but that level would depend on how strongly you feel about this.

reply

When I was a kid I liked this one better, but now I'm not so sure. I love the first two, equally right now.

reply

Luved the original and enjoyed the second one. Saw them as a kid in the theaters. What I liked about the second one was that it's a sequel, it's more open outside than the first. It's a good take on more being added.

reply

I enjoy the novelty of the first one, but the second one imo feels more immersive and high stakes because it's completely outside of Kevin's comfort zone, and I prefer that just a tad more. There's no wrong answer though, they're both great films.

reply

While I thought the booby trap sequence was superior here than the original I thought the rest of the first movie was superior to this one.

reply

It's because the damage to the house in part 2 didn't matter because it was under construction.

reply

I have never thought of it that way but that's a good analysis there.

reply

'Batman v Superman' writers did the same. Interesting. 🤔

reply

They filmed in a different city too.

reply

Nope, some people just like it better and why shouldn't they? It's a terrific movie, I think you come across a lonely merchant.

reply

I'm just having fun with this thread. This was more of an observation that people who like this one better like it because they have more nostalgia for it.

reply

The best scenes by far are the Plaza hotel ones with Tim Curry. The rest of the film is okay but nowhere near a patch on the original.

The original Home Alone is basically the Miracle on 34th Street/It's A Wonderful Life for the people who weren't around when those films came out. It's gone beyond a classic and now represents Christmas itself in film form. It should've been a one off, but regardless any sequel is just going to be inferior.

reply

The pigeon lady and the toy store owner really slow the film down.

reply

Agreed. I get why they were done, to add some emotion to the film and someone who kevin can connect to, but they were way too schmaltzy.

reply

...or maybe people who like the second one just have a different opinion than you, different taste.

There is no right or wrong here.

I don't get why some people cannot just relax and like what they like, and not be obsessed with why others like something they don't. They are not wrong, and neither are you. It's personal opinion.

Read some of my responses above. I'm not taking my comment seriously.
