I thought I was the only one!

Really- I thought I was the only person in the known universe who liked this movie- no, not liked- LOVED. I LOVED IT.

And I did from the second I saw it, when it came out. I was in Uni (omg lyk hOw old r u?!) getting my visual arts degree, and this movies sets just completely blew me away, and provided the creative inspiration I needed.

I started thrifting like a mad bugger and decorated my house exactly like that. I still love watching, and showing it to all my friends... who kind of inch away from me as I die laughing at every joke.

One day when I'm rich, I hope to own a pickle-shooting train.

This movie is amzing. When I was younger (like 10 or so) this is the only movie I ever wanted to rent at Blockbuster. This and Clue. I was a strange little girl.

"And it was 'Arrested Development'."

reply

I just recently watched it after not seeing it for years and it still doesn't work for me. The only scene I liked was at the end, when all the cops and soldiers turn out to be friends of the judge. I also noticed that when the judge holds up the bankers license at the end of the movie, his prosthetic nose looks like the end of a penis.

To this day whenever I'm at a BBQ or just simply making some hot dogs...I have to tell everyone to fix themselve up a couple of dogs in Dans voice.

reply

This is how I like 'em , and I suggest you have 'em the same way!

reply

HOW DO YA LIKE YER DOG?

reply

at the end?the first second i saw the judge's nose i thought to myself, thats a penis!

reply

it is

It took you to the END of the movie to notice that?

I loved this movie when I was a kid. It always played on HBO and I would watch it everytime it came on. It was on this morning and I still enjoyed watching it! I remembered how much I loved John Candy!

reply

I've loved it since I was a kid probably around the time it was new to video.

Champagne for my real friends
Real pain for my sham friends.

reply

That's funny.....When I was a kid, "Nothing But Trouble" was the only movie I kept renting at the video store. As far as a comedy, I think it's whitty, hip and full of laughs. I think it's a classic! And imagine if that happened to you and you ended up meeting J.P. and tried to figure a way out of his creepy fun house! Hah....

I like listening to the soundtrack too.

Good phrasing.."this movie is special in a weird sort of way".

yeah. it is NOT "good" in the way a movie is usually considered good. but I'll watch it when it's on, and I've found myself thinking about at weird times.

the acting IS not bad.

reply

One of my favorites too. Never really got the recognition it deserved though. The pickle shooting train is one of the best parts and the way the wet looking hot dogs quiver when he takes a bite is disgusting. You have to love "Mr Bonesplitter"

reply

You mean Mr. Bonestripper and, yes, you have to love it. Damn Yankee's tune and teeth cleaners, nice. I remember liking this movie and seeing it in the theater a couple of times. People thought I was weird.

reply

After the pickle shoots past the foreign guys face, I seriously can't help but laugh out loud. Whatever jibberish he yells at everyone before jumping out the window is pure wildness. I enjoy this movie everytime I have the pleasure of watching it.

reply

I love the Bonestripper song! And the Underground song too. Oh the hot dogs! Oh dear- one of my favourite bits. I also love how attractive john Candy is in the dress.

oh, and you username is great- my second favourite scientest ever, after Dr.Stantz, of course. ;)

reply

I honestly can't think of another movie that was as painful to watch as this.

reply

I loved it too, but I think I only saw it one time many years ago. I think of it from time to time but this is the first time looking it up. I need to see if I can find it. I can't really remember what it was that I liked about it, after others talking about the set, I think that may be it.

reply

Really? have you seen Dana Carvey's Master of Disguise? What about Moulin Rouge, that was pretty rank. Come on, even if you can't appreciate the humour you can at least admire it for the sheer WTF volume.

reply

This movie isn't for everyone. No movie is. It's not worthy of any awards, but I enjoyed it. I still laugh out loud recalling certain parts. There have been Oscar-worthy movies I didn't care for, but I appreciate them for what they are. I appreciate this movie for what it is - entertaining.

Anyone? Anyone?

reply

I like it too! Weird and crazy.

Valkenvania rockt die Scheiße fett!

And Judge Valkenheiser is as cool as hell. ^^

reply

Thank you! Everyone is ripping this movie. I loved it when it first came out and still love it now. Is it bad? Of course it is!!! Bad acting? Very bad! This movie is really cheesy...and that's what makes it great. This movie was not not made to be taken seriously. It's very entertaining and that is all I care about.

go away to our vacation house. i think dan
aykroyd and john candy were so amazing
in this movie. i loved their dual roles.

reply

Everyone loves this movie, they just don't know it yet... possibly because they haven't seen it yet. This is to their discredit and everlasting regret.

This was a pretty entertaining film, I wouldn't say one of my all time favourites but I liked to quite abit, it's really a shame that so many out there bash it so

Not the best storyline, but great actors and cool set design. I have to watch this again soon.
