My gf loves this movie. I get it. Happy ending, rags to riches, some funny stuff, romance too.
But I just see a whore. The whole time. And a bad one at that. She never once seems like the down and out, ugly as shit, drug abuser that most real whores usually are.
So the whole time watching, I'm just sitting there thinking, "yeah but.....she's a whore." Just can't get past it.
No no. I've always loved women. You are listening to assumptions from others made on here.
All the crap I post about women on here is about their delusions, and other real world truthful facts, that people don't like to admit or hear so they spin back on to ME as 'hating' women.
Just because I know how to make women truly happy, and it happens to be the opposite of what women tell themselves and can never admit (Generally speaking) doesn't automatically mean I hate women. Maybe in crazy land it does.
Facts are facts.
I didn't get it either. She's not even charming or has some skill set (aside from the obvious) that she doesn't get to use or improve on because of her lower-class status.
She is just a whore who gets lucky with the right John who must also have problems because he wouldn't even have to pay a woman to be with him in the first place. So he is getting his kicks cruising the slums.
Yet it's a romantic fantasy at least at the time. The down-and-out girl gets the Prince. The sequel would be her divorcing him and making away with more than half of what he has or else she will tell everyone how they really met!
[Vivian] is not even charming or has some skill set (aside from the obvious) that she doesn't get to use or improve on because of her lower-class status.
I agree, and think it's part the writing and part the actress.
Vivian was never shown as having some innate qualities that would make a rich guy fall in love with a hooker. I mean, they could have had a scene for instance where Edward stopped off at the hotel unexpectedly and found that she wasn't in the room. Barney tells him he saw her outside a little while ago, Edward walks outside and sees Vivian in the park buying all the neighborhood kids ice cream. Something like that.

This must be similar the way women viewed Rambo back during it's heyday. As men,we see a courageous soul triumphing against the odds, through a combination of wiles and raw grit. The ladies, by contrast, just see a slobbering, inarticulate bone-head who can afford a small arsenal, yet hasn't been able to scrounge together enough pennies to buy himself a shirt
At the end of one of the later Rambo's the second last one I think, you see him actually go home to this huge ranch and I thought, WTF, he could have been living there the whole time instead?!
I like this comparison.
Let's break it down.
(I've never watched Rambo so I might get some of this wrong)
Rambo had a quiet peaceful life, gets called back, kicks all the bad guys asses.
We guys relate to that, want to emulate that... be a nice quiet guy, but also kick asses if needed. I get it.
Pretty woman was a whore, literally fucking many other guys for money, devaluing her body and sexuality for all future partners and relationships, got lucky hooking up with a rich guy turning her into a princess.
So, girls relate to that, want to emulate being a whore, getting paid to fuck random strangers to afford to eat, hoping for the 1 in many billion chance of bedding a billionaire and living happily ever after. Our until the divorce where she gets half. :)
Makes sense. Seems achievable.
I guess because just as in movieland Rambo or Matrix can kill 100 men and only one of them will land a hit (that would kill in reality) that they can just brush off with "its a flesh wound" , in movieland whores are glamourous well paid and only accept good looking clients that they would enjoy being wined and dined by and then round it off with some nice sex in luxury silk sheets and possibly a new life.
... as opposed to sucking a Tramps dick for $5 or a hit of H.
