Which series went downhill most

Batman 89 to Batman and Robin or Superman the movie to this? I’m choosing this because Supe 1 was a cinematic masterpiece. A solid introduction, story, music etc.

This movie is pure trash. Do I still watch? Yes for the nostalgia. But overall prob the series that fell off the most.

reply

Agreed
Also Batman 3 is much better than Superman 3

reply

I'd say production quality across the Batman films as well as the cast names they were pulling in improved remarkably while the Superman films clearly went downhill. I don't like the Batman films as much as the Superman films, but there's no denying they ended up being the better productions.

reply

Good point on the cast. Mark Pillow as nuclear man with his voiced dubbed over by Gene Hackman was terrible.

reply

The first Superman is not a masterpiece at all. It's average and it's a rather boring movie.

Superman 2 is way better.

Superman 3 is the worst of them all and it's an abomination.

Superman 4 while being crappy it's way more fun and people can enjoy it.

Batman movies were way more consistent.

The first Batman and Batman 2 are way better than Superman 1, and better than Superman 2.

Batman 3 is cheesy but a lot of fun.

Batman & Robin is an abomination.

reply

I do like Superman 2 the best but part 1 was a better made movie.

reply

No. Superman 2 is a way better movie than Superman 1.

Superman 1 is boring and rather bizarre sometimes.

reply

You think 1 is bizarre but Superman having a cellophane S or having the power to make Lois forget everything with a kiss isn’t?

1 is only boring if you just want straight action. It’s a great origin story and sets up the characters well.

reply

Superman 1 is bizarre many times. Superman 2 is massively superior.

This is a SUPERMAN MOVIE! Of course we need action.

And it's not because of its lack of action, is that most of the time Superman 1 is uninteresting.

reply

Which parts of Superman 1 are bizarre? I'm genuinely interested.

reply

It's difficult to name all of them.

But the way many times they shot the scenes felt awkward.

For example, that thief climbing the building and then Superman appears and scares him making him fall. The way the thief initially was climbing felt like he was just cat walking in a strange glass floor.

The beginning of the movie, the entire sequences in Superman's home planet, everything felt so dark, not very well defined or polished.

reply

I don't see anything wrong with the cat burglar scene. Obviously it was shot by the actor crawling along the floor but I think he did a very convincing job of making it look like he was climbing up a wall.

I guess we need to agree to disagree about the Krypton scenes. I thought they were brilliant, some of the best parts of the film, nor do I see anything particularly dark about them.

I still don't see anything bizarre about the movie, but I don't have an answer if you think it was boring. Personally I think it was anything but.

Just to clarify, I hope you watched the theatrical version and not the 3-hour-long "Extended Cut" because that is full of unnecessary extra scenes that make the movie a WHOLE lot worse.

reply

The movie was boring, uninteresting and rather bizarre in many spots.

I've only seen the normal version.

I'm glad we had this amazing chat.

reply

Hmmm. Hard to say. Superman 4 while I find it fun than most is also a pretty bad movie. Batman and Robin is also bad. I can't say which sucks more.

reply

Superman...

Batman and Robin made over 100 million in the U.S alone.

Superman IV made around 15 million i think.

reply

The story in general is pure trash, but the fighting between Superman and nuclear man is even worse.

reply

The script, acting, and costuming of Batman and Robin is an abomination but this is still worse. Somehow this manages to come off like a cheaper knockoff of its former movies than even that movie. Plus the whole Superman 3 thing is much worse than Batman Forever too. The Richard Pryor casting is atrocious

reply

Batman '89 - very good
Batman Returns - excellent
Batman Forever - good
Batman & Robin - an abomination

Superman - good
Superman II - good
Superman III - watchable
Superman IV - very poor

For me Batman has the highest highs, but also the lowest low. Average overall, the first three movies put Batman on top - but then I'm more of a Batman guy.

Superman - good
Superman II - good
Superman III - watchable
Superman IV - very poor

A very succinct summary.
