Things that seems to date this movie?

Two things that I can think of that easily dates this movie is people smoking on the bus & inside the restaurant and the poofy hairstyles that were common in the late 1980's.

Credit card "readers" that swiped and made an imprint of your card on a carbon copy receipt.

A thought I had, is that the Steve Martin character is shown as normal, and everyone around him is illustrated as being dysfunctional and lacking in the social graces. Today, those characters would be portrayed as mainstream, and Martin's character would be presented as a boring snob.

No cell phones and Uber

reply

lol.

You can say that about any movie.

The music. In a good way.

The role the watches play in the movie. With cell phones being so prevalent anymore, most people (including myself) don't wear watches anymore.

reply

Is that really true? I see plenty of people wearing watches. I wear one all the time.

reply

I wear a watch but only because I work in a grocery store. Both management and customers don't want my coworkers or I to use a cellphone while on the clock.

reply

I did a Google search...it surprised me: a lot of people apparently still wear them, although I don't and most of my co-workers don't anymore. It does seem like the number of people who wear them are declining. I was probably erroneous in saying "most" in my post, though.

No worries, I was just surprised ๐Ÿ‘

I see what you did there. ๐Ÿ˜ธ

Oh no! It's dated! They should have anticipated what everything would be like in 2023 and made the movie to look like that. As it is, it's unwatchable because it doesn't seem like now!

reply

This comment seems like an over exaggeration. Was that really what the original post was implying? That they should have anticipated what the movie would like in 2023.

I think the person was just talking about things on a surface level, not criticizing the whole movie
