Timothy Dalton fails to impress

So I watched all of Roger Moore's Bonds. And even an old Moore in A View to a Kill is better than The Living Daylights.

My problem is Dalton. He's so dull. No charisma. May as well be a shop dummy.

I wasn't impressed with Maryam d'Abo and any of the villains either.

The problem for Dalton in this film is that it is essential still a Moore film and the more constipated face appearance that Dalton employs in it just doesn't work.

In LTK - which is still sub Moore levels Bond - he possibly partially redeems himself when he says "things were about to get nasty". It's a brilliant accent slip which at least injects some humour into proceedings.

Dalton is best bond imo.

but i am bias. first bond film i see are dalton ones. i like his two movies because they are made like 80s action. bond film with connery and moore are to slow. they are like watching cruise ship sail best - impressive but slow.

80s dalton bond films are fast and action pack.

dalton is goat bond.

reply

Wrong. Dalton played the Bond of the books - a moody bastard, which contrasts brilliantly with Koskov’s jolly villain.

The sniper scene is pure gold, as is the Pushkin almost-assassination scene.

The 2 Dalton films of the 80’s just felt kinda cheap and low budget, with lackluster villains and Bond Girls. I mean…..having guys like Robert Davi and Wayne Newton as your bad guys??

And Dalton just comes off as….stuffy. He’s a good actor, and a certain percentage of people appreciate his two Bond attempts, I get it. But those two films fell flat for me.

If you are looking back from today they would look poor but they are not for the time.

These two films was trying to be close to real yes this may appear boring to some but this is how the books are.

Wayne Newton was not villain another poster who has not even watched the film they moaning about.

Dalton played bond as he is written this is why people who are big bond fans of original material rate him as one of the best.

The movies was not written for him as well which didn't help

Only the opening of The Living Daylights is "how the books are". Licence To Kill wasn't even related to any Fleming novel, not even by title.

i actually think Dalton nails the dry humour.. and looks like he can kick some ass.
although i like Moore, i feel like i can slap him silly

Connery and Moore are the only Bonds I care about. I saw one of Dalton's Bond movies, and wasn't impressed enough to watch another.

reply

I like Dalton. He's a broodier more sophisticated Bond who feels closer to a real person. My no. 2 behind Connery.

reply

I've always thought he was one of the best Bond's.

reply

Dalton is my third favourite Bond after Connery and Craig. I thought he did a great job.
