The problem for Dalton in this film is that it is essential still a Moore film and the more constipated face appearance that Dalton employs in it just doesn't work.
In LTK - which is still sub Moore levels Bond - he possibly partially redeems himself when he says "things were about to get nasty". It's a brilliant accent slip which at least injects some humour into proceedings.
but i am bias. first bond film i see are dalton ones. i like his two movies because they are made like 80s action. bond film with connery and moore are to slow. they are like watching cruise ship sail best - impressive but slow.
The 2 Dalton films of the 80’s just felt kinda cheap and low budget, with lackluster villains and Bond Girls. I mean…..having guys like Robert Davi and Wayne Newton as your bad guys??
And Dalton just comes off as….stuffy. He’s a good actor, and a certain percentage of people appreciate his two Bond attempts, I get it. But those two films fell flat for me.
These two films was trying to be close to real yes this may appear boring to some but this is how the books are.
Only the opening of The Living Daylights is "how the books are". Licence To Kill wasn't even related to any Fleming novel, not even by title.
