Rank Hellraiser movies

I just finished watching the ninth movie and here's my ranking:

1 )Hellraiser 6.5\10
2 )Inferno (V) 6\10
3 )Hellseeker (VI) 6\10 (it's in no way a better movie than Hellbound but it's a more entertaining one. Loved the plot, loved Kristy in it)
4 )Hellbound (II) 5.5\10 (I'm probably going to get *beep* for this, but thought that the plot was a mess and not as entertaining as the two above)
5 )Bloodline (IV)
6 )Deader (VII) 5\10
7 )Hellworld (VIII) 5\10
8 )Hell on Earth (III) 4.5\10
9 )Revelations (IX) 3.5\10

What's your's ?

I have only seen the first two however i personally think the second was the most brilliantly written just disjointed on a first or even second viewing it adds a lot of depth to the cenobites that just was not there in Hellraiser. However Hellrasier was a much more clever movie than any high budget Hollywood horror movie to come out in the last twenty years.

I've only seen up to Inferno, the 5th movie. But given the 5 i've seen so far, this is my ranking for them:

1) Hellraiser
2) Hellbound
3) Bloodline
4) Hell on Earth
5) Inferno

Inferno started kind of interesting, but got boring after awhile. Because of this and what i've heard about the later direct to video releases, i'm not sure I want to watch 6,7,8, or 9. The first two films are far better than anything released after. The 4th IMO so far is the closest in tone to the first two, while featuring a substantial amount of Pinhead plus some decent cenobites (still has nothing on his original gang though). Hell on Earth had a lot of Pinhead which is good, but overall it was a bit too campy, and most of the other characters were kind of stupid or annoying. I did find the split between Elliot Spencer and Pinhead intriguing though.

1- Hellraiser. Just a quality horror movie through and through. Still to this day one of my favorites.

2. Hellbound. This one gets a bad wrap from some people, but I personally still love it. Although you can tell that a lot was lost on the cutting room floor, it's still a great sequel, and also one of my favorite horror films.

3. Bloodline. Interesting concept. I liked how they delved into the box's history. Certain aspects about it that I dislike, but it's a better film than most of the others in the franchise.

Now here's where things get tricky. I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this.

4. Revelations. Don't get me wrong. The movie was an abomination of filmmaking. It's awful, there's no doubt about that. Awful writing, awful acting, rushed production that makes it come off like a fan-film. It's practically unwatchable. HOWEVER; when you compare it to the other films (save for the 3 listed above) it feels the most like a Hellraiser film out of all the sequels. It was the first movie that did Hellraiser right since part 3, while doing everything else wrong.

5. Inferno, Hellseeker, Deader, and Hellworld. I have these all lumped together because they're all in the same boat. It's a struggle to watch them. They ignore jut about everything established in parts 1 and 2. They're just not good quality films. Hell, some of them were actually scripts for other movies that were rewritten into Hellraiser sequels last second. The only good things that came from these films were some creative Cenobite designs (Bound, Stitch, Wire Twins, Surgeon, etc.)

6. Hell on Earth. The absolute worst. I had so much trouble watching this one. It completely misses the point of everything that makes Hellraiser what it is. The only creative thing we got from this was a bit of backstory for Pinhead, but that doesn't even make a difference, because the acting is atrocious, the concept is awful, and the cenobites are pathetic (the CD cenobite is the exception)

The Titanic sinks, Bruce Willis is a ghost, and Henry is the killer.

Hellseeker--8/10
Hellbound--5/10

Hellraiser 9/10 - one of my favorite horror movies all time
Hellbound 8/10 - pretty good, but over the top, more gory than scary
Hell on Earth 3/10 - loved this when i was a kid but it really sucks now, Hellraiser done MTV style.

Bloodline 5/10 - Decent, coulda been really awesome
Inferno 4/10 - I appreciate the different perspective on what happens after opening the box. This one deals more with mental torture than physical. I hear Clive Barker hated this one though.

Hellseeker 3/10 - Same concept as Inferno, cept it has Kirsty, which is good. If this one had been released before Inferno I'd probably like it more but it just feels like a repeat.

Haven't seen the others probably never will.

Your comments about Inferno and Hellseeker aren't exactly negative but they have very low ratings. Why is that?

Overall I prefer Bloodline to Hell on Earth, as I feel it stayed more true to the atmosphere and spirit of Hellraiser, but I concede that HoE is the more complete movie while Bloodline had a lot of behind the scenes problems.

1)Hellraiser
2)Deader
3)Hellseeker
4)Inferno

the rest are garbage

Possessed by homicide is what i'm obsessed

Hellbound is far better than any of the dtv movies.

My ratings on Inferno and Hellseeker were a lot lower mainly because they are essentially borrowing heavily from Jacob's Ladder, and the acting, especially in Hellseeker is beyond bad. (I'll ignore the fact that none of the movies after Bloodline were intended to be Hellraiser films, they just got modified at the last minute. Movie studios probably do this kind of thing a lot.) I'll admit Inferno had my attention most of the time, and in a way gave Pinhead back some of his dignity. He was never intended to be 'evil' per se, or a Hollywood slasher horror villian for that matter.

In The Hellbound Heart, I'd say the cenobites were somewhat benign. Although you may perceive the depraved experiences they offer as evil(in the same way a devout Christian may view an orgy as evil), they don't force them on anyone. They gave Frank the chance to back out even after he summoned them, although it's possible they were lying. The cenobite that appeared to Kirsty seemed to be aware that Kirsty had made a mistake and hadn't intended to summon them, but said they were bound by the rules of the box, that they can't return to their world alone.

Starting with Hellraiser, the cenobites took on more of a threatening demeanor. When Frank solved the box, there was no talk at all before the "experiences" began. The moment the box was solved, hooks flew out and ripped into Frank. When Kirsty solved the box, she was chased by the Engineer and then manhandled by Chatterer while Pinhead and the Female cenobite would say threatening things to her. The same scene in the book was much more civil. And of course, in the end, the cenobites decide to take Kirsty by force even though she got them Frank, and Butterball nearly stabs Steve for no reason other than he was in the way.

So while I'd say they weren't quite evil in the book, they were in the movies, although more restrained than typical horror movie villains.

i think 1 and 2 complement each other well i hate 3 i find it so overly Americanized and feels like a generic slasher film to me like some of the later elm street movies to the point where the one in space was better and thats saying something 6 had some moments but was nothing more than a tv movie with some ok ish moments was cool to see kirsty come back despite being verry underused but it did surve as an ok set up to a decebt sequal idea that was never utalised but the twist was silly asife we would not know that pinhead was behind it all same goes for 5 but that was way more boring 4 seamd like it may of been ok if the studio didnt mess it up in its currant state its pretty poor

i could never bring myselfe to watch anymore i i know for fact that like 5 and 6 thay was mearly some rejected unused scripts with a few hellraiser re writes tacked on the exploit the name and the latest one dont even have doug bradly and it was made in a mater of months again not worthy of my time so imo 1 and 2 are the only real hell raiser movies

you will have to forgive the lack of full stops lack of proper spelling im dyslexic but not stupid

reply

i agree 1 and 2 are a true sequel they pick up where they left off sorta, 4 is one of my favs, i usually overlook the space *beep* and enjoy the origin story and such the space part disapointed me but the backup story was awesome.

Well, it's definitely an extremely uncommon ranking, especially with Revelations so high and Hellbound so low.
