Scarier than I thought, especially the claymation

Just watched this movie a few days ago, and was pleasantly surprised. I previously heard that it was scary, but I didn't think it would be as effective as it was. The claymation was awesomely done in a very creepy way.

Any other recommendations similar to this style of film?

Check out Labyrinth, Legend and The Neverending Story.

This film is among the most disturbing films from my childhood. It's horrific.

I'd recommend The Witches (1990), another so called 'kids movie' that, like Return to Oz, is ten times more horrifying than any generic horror movie you can find.
