It’s still pretty funny.

At the time it came out it was hysterical.

Spying on the women and the whole rape scene where he tricks a girl into sex went too far, I think.

reply

I JUST WATCHED THIS WITH MY 15 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER...SHE SPECIFICALY SAID THOSE TWO PARTS WERE "SUS"...WHICH I BELIEVE IS SHORT FOR SUSPICIOUS?...IT'S NOT GOOD,I KNOW THAT...OTHER THAN THAT SHE THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY AND ENJOYED IT.

reply

could be "suspect" ?

reply

Did they go that far? I thought he just ate some muff pie

reply

I need to go back and watch the scene again. I'm curious what technically makes it rape. She gave consent. The assumption is that he did not identify himself under the mask and knew that she thought he was someone else which would have led her to not give consent. So he lied. But lots of people lie. Many people lie all the time to the extent if their sexual partner knew, the partner would withdrawal consent, but you cannot withdrawal retroactively. How culpable is the woman in this scene for providing consent without establishing the necessary facts on her end?

Note - I do not condone the actions of the man in this scene and find it at the very least highly immoral.

reply

Its not retroactive , she never consented to that guy , she consented to some other guy

I think maybe it comes down to if the guy knew he wasnt the one receiving the consent, ie he knew he she thought he was someone else.

reply

"I'm curious what technically makes it rape. She gave consent."

She didn't though. she gave consent to stan not to Louis. It doesnt matter that he only "lied" he raped her even though she didn't call the police. Louis got lucky.

reply

I understand what you are saying, but what is her obligation to confirm on her part who she is having consensual intercourse with? Would the situation be the same if she went into a dark bedroom and had sex with the man sleeping in the bed only to find out afterwards that it was Louis and not Stan? Would Louis be convicted of rape for laying there and being mounted? Now we all know what Louis did was wrong, but is it the fact that Louis had the opportunity to correct her about his identity that makes it rape? Is withholding of information concerning one's identity sexual assault?

reply

She has no obligation to confirm that it it's her boyfriend and not a guy tricking her into thinking it was. If Betty had recoiled in horror that it was a guy she hated and not her boyfriend when the mask came off she Louis would hasve been screwed (pun intended).

reply

Got it, so the deception trumps her consent. In the end you're right, Louis got lucky. Not with Betty (well he did), but with Betty's reaction to the deception. They probably shouldn't have installed those spy cameras either, but that's for another thread.

reply

Right. This is a silly movie which is fun and not anywhere near realistic.

reply

Nope not too far at all. Sorry woketard.

reply

They should get around to editing problematic material out of this film soon. There's a lot of it. The movie's depiction of several marginalized groups includes harmful stereotypes and promotes misogynistic and bigoted attitudes that have no place in modern society.

reply

I just seen a Pride Parade where a man is bent over in a speedo in the bed of a truck while another man was standing behind him simulating sticking something up his bum with kids all around but yeah we really have to do something about Revenge of the Nerds so the children don't grow up to be Degenerates.

reply

Or just don’t watch it. As a minority and nerd myself this is one of the movies I grew up with and appreciated. Sad that woke culture turns it back on the he very social outcasts the supposably “care” about:

Take your censorship and shove it up your ass.

What a country of disturbing morons.

reply

Agreed, I've seen other comedies that did worse..!

harmless fun , don't be uptight

I disagree with homophobic. While Lamar being gay is used as a prop for some jokes, he is ultimately welcomed and embraced as one of the guys. He even gets his moment to shine during the Greek Games when he beats the QB in the javelin throw. And he's the lead in their musical number.

Agree with the rest though. Still love the movie.

Yes.

reply

You forgot hysterical.

reply

That's what makes this movie so funny. I was 11 when it was released in theatres and it cracked me up. Hard to believe that in 40 years it would cause an uproar but people have gotten so sensitive to these issues now unlike the 1980s when it was simply humorous.

I saw that Rob Ager video earlier today inspired me to rewatch "Revenge of the Nerds" for the first time in 35 years. it's still funny as hell but it has some jokes that certainly didn't age well. I give it a 7/10 and recommend it to anyone that hasn't seen it that isn't easily offended.
