No, a cliche isnt racist.
That depends entirely on the cliché. Not all clichés are racist, but racism is based on stereotypes - in other words, clichés.
Noone beside you thinks for a second that all indians are eating monkey brain all day for real!
Are you dense? For you to make any sense you should have said: "No one beside you thinks for a second that *I* think all Indians are eating monkey brain all day for real". It would still have been a monstrously stupid thing for you to say, but at least miles more intelligent than what you
did say.
To spell it out: I specifically pointed out that the dinner scene is NOT a cliché. The cliché lies in the notion that non-white natives are savages. Remember, the dinner scene was presented as NORMAL. It was not a Thuggee dinner. It was presented as something the white non-natives would perceive as par for the course in that region. The fact that hardly anyone would actually think this is the sort of food that Hindus would eat, is irrelevant. No one
actually thinks black people are monkeys either, but such a comparison is nevertheless racist.
Millions of people outside India watching Bollywood movies.
Almost exclusively Indian students and ex-pats.
Its one of the fastest growing movie industries out there.
For one of the fastest growing populations. Globally, it's extremely niche.
And no, noone from Switzerland even gives a sh*t about this cliches they are using in there movies.
Your comparisons are beyond ridiculous. First of all, I doubt if as many as 1000 Swiss are even aware of Swiss portrayals in Bollywood movies. Second, the Swiss are hardly a marginalised minority.
its a cliche, not reality!
"The Eternal Jew" is also cliché, and not reality. Doesn't make it any less offensive, does it? The thing about clichés is that they are
believed. Not by everyone, of course, but the dumber they come, the more literal they are going to take those clichés. Like white folks can't dance, black people have lower intelligence, men are worse at multitasking, women are bad drivers etc. etc. I don't think we'll have to dig very deep to find some clichés
you believe to be true, either.
