shareWhether you like it or not a lot of movies both back then and years before didn't have African Americans in leading roles. But imo that doesn't make it racist. Honestly I don't know any African American Actors from back then so I can't really tell you who would've been good as the characters in the movie.

I will. I admit I was born in the late 80s. The famous black actors I know are Eddie Murphy, Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, and James Earl Jones (mainly from Star Wars, Conan, and the Jack Ryan movies).

It's time to put something straight once and for all:
When you see a red door, it is that color because that is the color on the visible light spectrum that is being reflected back to your optical receptors. When you see something white, it is because it is a combination of all colors being reflected back to your eyes. Dark brown and black are the reflection of little to no color being perceived by your eyes. So white folks actually are more accurately described as people of color, so I'm claiming appropriation!

I think the thread was an attempt at humor but the cast was fine. It probably would not have been cast this way 40 years later. My guess would be Brody: he would have been black. Actually Martha's V. has had a black community for generations. There was a lot of farming done there before it became a tourist hotspot post-WW2.
If Brody was Black the movie would no longer be a story about a series of shark attacks. It would instead be a story about a Black sheriff experiencing distrust and prejudice among the bigoted White citizens of a small beach town during a series of shark attacks.
Yes, Brody as played by White Roy Scheider was an outsider from the big city, but that was just background detail. If he'd been Black, his experiences with racism would have stolen the show from the shark.
