High Plains Drifter or Josey Wales

Of the two 1970's westerns directed/starring Clint Eastwood, which is your favorite?

I choose High Plains Drifter because the story was more exciting and focused. I loved the music and film techniques from the camera angels, locations, choreography of the action scenes and editing.

Josey Wales is good, too, but the story wanders sometimes.

High plains.

I'd give the edge to Josey Wales. I think the interaction he has with Ten Bears is epic.

reply

Well, to the best of my recollection Josey Wales doesn't rape anybody, so that is my choice.

Drifter is a young man's movie. Josey Wales is for an older man who understands just how dishonest society is.

reply

I prefer Drifter although they were all great.

reply

I don't think they can be compared. Two very distinctive styles. I love them both.

The Outlaw Josey Wales is one of the best Westerns ever. So, Josey Wales is better. (I think it’s actually better than Unforgiven.) And High Plains Drifter is a really good western.

I feel like HPD is a better paced film. The 2nd half of OJW kind of drags out. OJW has more memorable scenes but HPD is the better film imo.
