The first thing I thought of when I heard his name was the novel Peyton Place which was written in 1954. It became a popular TV series in the sixties. My grandmother used to watch it.
But yeah, lots of odd names out there. Every parent wants to be so different that all the strange names sound the same.

It's stupid to you. I don't think it's stupid and I'd venture to say that legions of people don't think it's stupid either. Who are you to call someone stupid, for naming their child a name that YOU don't like? Maybe they don't like your name. Does that make your parents stupid?
If anyone's stupid, it's you for presuming someone's intelligence based on the name they gave their child.
