Why are you so eager to excuse the Commander in Chief of not using the military to secure the capitol? Security of the country is the president's most important job, and Trump decided not to do it back then.

As Commander in Chief of the military, including the National Guard, the president decides when to call out the National Guard. The state governors can do this too.
Trump should have been proud to call out the National Guard to prove that he was in control of the situation and wanted to protect Congress during vote certification. Instead he just watched people riot in the Capitol. Then later on told the rioters how much he loved them and told them to go home.

Trump repeated said he could do anything per the Constitution. Trump could have called out the National Guard, but he decided not to do it. Why would the Commander in Chief refuse to call out the National Guard?
