What was your first JCVD movie?

Not his best or your favorite, the first film of his that you watched. And do you still like it?

For me, it's... Double Impact (1991). I saw my first sex scene thanks to this film.

Kid me loved that film. My friends & I had the VHS copy & watched the shit out of it.

Watching it as an adult, it's an OK movie. Apart from the nostalgia, it's pretty meh.

Bloodsport
'87? im guesssing .
I'd give that a rewatch , and look at the cheesy music and 80s outfits with a sort of nostalgia : )

Bloodsport is a good one. For me, it's one of his best.

Bloodsport, Kickboxer or Cyborg. Rented them all at the same time in a stack. Blew my little teenage mind so it did.

My first 3 JCVD flicks were

1. Double Impact (loved it)

2. Bloodsport (loved it)

3. Universal Soldier (Didn't enjoy it as much back then. Actually forgot most of it)

I'm pretty sure Universal Soldier was the first Van Damme movie I saw but before that, I have a vague yet definitive memory of seeing a preview of Cyborg as one of the opening trailers for the actual movie I was watching at the time. I was way too young to remember anything besides what was probably the most memorable shot of the movie where in ominous, dark lighting Van Damme is dramatically revealed to be doing an epic split above a perusing enemies head, with a knife ready to strike.

Never saw Cyborg until I was an adult. Definitely watched Universal Soldier though

Cause for the longest time, I just had this memory of watching soldiers eat raw meat in a supermarket.

'A.W.O.L: Absent Without Leave' - 1990 (known as 'Lionheart' outside the U.K.) Watched it when I was 13 in 1991, which was the start of my crush on JCVD. :-) lol I still love the film today and also had it on VHS back in the day.

After that was 'Kickboxer'(1989). The dance scene is too cringy to watch now as an adult, but back then it was exquisite. :-) LOL

Then
'Double Impact' - Liked it back then, but not a fan now.
'Universal Soldier - LOVED it and still do!! Had a huge crush on Dolph too.
'Bloodsport' - Really liked this film.
'No Where to Run' - A bit cheesy now.

I started to lose interest, crush wise, when I saw 'Time Cop'. Didn't like his hair and got tired of him showing off with his splits. :-) lol

I still like JCVD though. He has a great sense of humour and can make fun of himself.

Yes!

Also love that he doesn't mind getting his ass kicked. He's bloodied up & beaten in most of his movies.

Unlike today's action stars like The Rock & Vin Diesel who have to play invincible characters. No one can touch them. Which is an actual thing that's in their contracts. lol

When your hero is down, you actually get to root & cheer for him/her and it makes their victory that much sweeter

reply

You mean like this :-) lol https://youtu.be/KApUqno3IHw?t=314 Even his enemies cheer for him at the end. Click on play I have saved it from when he gets beaten to a pulp to then finding super strength.

The 80s/90s action films were the best.

reply

Oh yes! Love it!

I think John Wick does it best in the modern era. He's the boogeyman. He's badass. He's unkillable.

But guess what? He gets his ass whooped all the time. He'd be dead if he didn't have help from his allies

double impact as well. i see this when i was kid. i think a friend have it on videos. very fun night watching this comic book/video game like films.

and yes i remember hump scene the most as well! most memorable hump scene in action film next to predator 2 and showodwn in little tokyos. i also remember aerobics scene at beginning where gay van damme brother is showing off.

but universal soldier was first van damme i see where i become fan. he is very good in that film! but i like double impact still - good storys and good action.

I think mine was Cyborg (1989). I watched it at a friends house and afterwards we went outside and punched and kicked the boards on their fence. The next day their dad was pissed as hell. I still love that movie.
