So is his career over?

I was just looking at his IMDB page and he doesn't have even one film in production. Not a damn thing.

So is this just it for him?

I have to think we'll see him again eventually. It will probably start with him appearing in some low-budget indies and then, maybe, several years down the road Hollywood will bring him back into fold.

It's going to be a hard road back though.

Yes. He's done as a Hollywood star. I believe he'll work stage shows forever, nobody cares on the stage. And I think he'll do foreign films and be quite welcomed across the ocean. But he's done being a box office star.

reply

He probably has enough money to work under the radar quite comfortably for the rest of his life now.

His last film Billionaire Boys Club tanked because of his assault allegations can see why he was cut from All The Money In The World because it would've affected the film and bring it down, who can watch anything new with Spacey in and look past it?

reply

Anything's possible in Hollywood, which is scary on its own. I agree that once this whole thing has blown over he may get another shot in 5-10 years.

I can picture someone from Spacey's PR camp saying "he seeked the treatment that he needed and paid his dues to society, now he just wants to move on with his life and go back to doing what he loves. Everybody makes mistakes, but we all deserve a second chance."

reply

I believe in that philosophy, honestly, that no one is beyond redemption. Obviously he needs to spend some time away and take a hit for all his bullshit, but I'm not going to sit here and say I'll never watch another Kevin Spacey movie.

Thing is though, he's already 59 years old. That's something to consider. If he's going to try staging a comeback, he better shoot more that 5 year mark than for the 10 year mark.

reply

Oh absolutely, I think he should definitely take a big dive for his actions, but the cynical part of me thinks that he will be welcomed back into the public sphere at some point in time. It might not happen though (there's a very good chance that it won't), perhaps just like OJ his reputation and career will forever be the punchline of a joke from here on in.

reply

Yeah, it was a sudden and unexpected fall from grace. Pretty crazy how it all went down really.

One day he was an A-list actor who was the lead on one of the most popular shows currently airing and literally within like two weeks he was a pariah.

I can't even really think of another comparable example.

Since last year we've been shifting culturally, all the stuff that Weinstein and Spacey have been doing has stopped being acceptable in Hollywood, Weinstein blow the lid of what had been an industry standard.

reply

Yep, you need a pristine history if you want to work in Hollywood or be a liberal, aka no sexual allegations when you're a teen else your whole career is over even if you never ever did it ever again and learnt your lesson decades after. If you're a lefty, don't get drunk or party hard where you could feel horny for some cute chick cause male brain animal behavior will take over and end your career.

Actually, now that I think about it, it may not happen anymore with how leftists raise their kids. They'll probably mostly turn out to be soy boys and get mandatory gender and race relation studies. Most may start talking with a more feminine tone of voice slash with a hint of gay. #woke

Well Mike Tyson has been in movies.

Like with Bill Cosby it's unfortunate difficult situation that ruins his whole legacy.

Mel Gibson came back. Spacey has done the resident therapy for sexaholics thing. After that tape, "Let Me Be Frank," I don't know. Yes, he was playing a character, but the next step on the way back to acceptance is usually some sincere apologies. He doesn't look like he's going to be in the mood to do that.

I'm sorry to see him self-destruct. He was an incredible actor. Still is. But choices have consequences.

reply

I've seen people equate Spacey's situation with Gibson's but I don't think they are that similar beyond the general fact that they both got in trouble and shunned by their industry.

The thing about Gibson is that his crime was . . . saying mean things. Frankly, I think Gibson never should gotten the treatment that he did.

With Spacey though, there are multiple reports of sexual assault as well as numerous people saying he made life on set uncomfortable and difficult for all involved. I'm not sure which, if any, of the accusations are true--though Spacey's own words would seem to indicate that at least SOME of them are--but I definitely think that what Spacey has been accused of is much worse than Gibson saying stuff that offended some people.

Is Kevin Spacey done as an actor? Will Hollywood ever give work once more to producers/actors/directors that have had past criminal wrongdoings unearthed?

When a company spends millions to take you out of a new movie, it's probably over.
