How long have you been here?

Being newer here, I still feel like I have a lot to learn about this board and its history. For anyone who feels comfortable sharing, I'm just curious:

1. How many years have you been posting here?
2. Why didn't you tell me about this place sooner? (Just kidding)
3. Has it changed much over the years?

reply

About two years.
We did tell you but you said you didn't want to use a site that didn't have a search function.
Seems the same, thankfully it hasn't been politically corrected into cold oatmeal like so many other sites.

reply

1. So in cat years, you've been here 24 years which is longer than the board has been in existence.
2. Now you're just being ridiculous.
3. When I finally did the search on Google that suggested this site, I typed in "not cold oatmeal".

reply

I think the oatmeal
That you did eat for breakfast
Had chlormequat

reply

I think you don't know how many syllables chlormquat has.

Just think PB, how one Google search made us friends. One Google search was also how I knew your haiku was wrong.

reply

It's obviously pronounced differently in Canada. That's a Canadian haiku.

reply

Do Canadians add syllables to all words or just agricultural chemicals?

reply

You know, when we make you guys a province, we'll remember who mocked us.

reply

There once was a poster named PB
Who was a little bit sassy
He loved Captain Kirk
Razzed board puns with a smirk
And now has his hands full with me-ee

Americans can add syllables, too.

reply

Somewhere in Japan
Someone is reading this thread
And shaking their head

reply

In which direction?

reply

I only reply to haikus now.

It's like my own personal captcha test.

reply

I thought my limerick was pretty fantastic. With your Korean heritage though, I understand your preference towards Asian poetry.

These skinny boxes make haikus look ugly.

reply

Sorry, what was the question?

reply

Why you've eaten cold oatmeal for 24 years. Pay attention.

reply

That wasn't in form form of a haiku.

reply

If I had known you'd
Require haikus I'd have flushed
That thread like a poo

reply

I'm trying to see how many haikus I can get you to do.

Wait, I keep saying things out loud that I should only use my inside voice for.

Doh.

reply

Out of respect for popcorngal I shall answer everything you've written lately here.

The number of haikus that you will get from me is much less than the number of fart facts you sent me in that other threadยน.

You went full librarian. No one here has ever gone full librarian.

You can imagine this is me:

reply

I've stated multiple times on this forum that I should have been a librarian.

And yes. This is in fact, library.

reply

Somewhere within the first week or so of the inception of the site.

reply

You are lucky! I wish I had found it that quickly. It is possible that this site was mentioned in the flurry of sites mentioned on IMDb as that ship was sinking and I missed it. It was a bit of a chaotic time.

reply

Yeah, I was so anxious and impatient to join, that's where my impromptu username came from. I was in the middle of a documentary about D.B. Cooper when I discovered it. ๐Ÿ˜

reply

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜„

reply

I came here about two weeks after this site began. It's gotten worse since parkerbot showed up.

reply

So another site OG. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Would you like less talk of Star Trek captains in your pun threads?

reply

More Star Trek and puns are what this site needs. We need less parkerbots. (Hopefully parkerbot sees this)

reply

Don't be mad that I won't share any of my Kirk body pillows with you.

reply

I'm scared what you were doing with those pillows.

reply

I thought you were going to say that Kirk was having a PB sandwich.

Cause that would be creepy.

Since 2/17/2017, which was 3 days before the IMDb forums shut down, and if not day 1 for this site, it was pretty close to it:

I wrote "supposedly" when I created that bookmark because I was skeptical at the time that they'd be able to fully archive the vast IMDb forums. Originally, when they did get them archived, you could see them but not reply to them. Also, text in the archived posts that was originally in quote tags, like so...

This text is in quote tags.

... wasn't in quote tags here, which made certain archived posts hard to read. I don't remember how long it took them to fix those issues, but I believe the reply thing was fixed before the quote tags thing was.

reply

Lots of OG's here! Boy do I feel green.

reply

Been on for 3 years.

Well, it stayed the same as I stayed the same. IOW, since day 1, one has only gone where one was interested.

MY usage has increased - simply because of the way my day works. Rather than having a bunch of people over (and being left with a mess to clean up, LOL) - it's preferable, when I take breaks, to join in on MC. Especially since what one loves to discuss is discussed more here than any other site I know of.

You can always find an interesting topic to get involved in.

reply

Thanks for answering JT. It's interesting to me to learn how long everyone has been here. I'm glad you're here!

reply

Yeah, I'm glad you're here, too.

I tend to be drawn to your threads.

My pleasure to join in on this one.

Ok, time for some working out - Have fun 4L!

reply

reply

1. I was on MC from the start, but lurked at first. About 6 years ago my original Username got blocked, so I had to create a new one. It was at this point I discovered GD.

2. You never returned my calls.

3. Yes, unfortunately many of the nice posters have been driven away. There seems to be a lot more hatred to deal with nowadays.

reply

That's too bad. All we can do is keep spreading the positivity and silliness! And chat about movies, of course.

reply

๐Ÿ’ฏ

reply

I disagree with the "more hatred" comment, AK. Looks like business as usual to me.

reply

Been here since the start. I think that would be 2017. The IMDB board closed down, so I came here.

It โ€˜s a lot of fun. Of course some people hate my comments ( political that is), but mostly it is interesting and a way to connect with people about all sorts of topics.

reply

It looks like most people in this thread have been here all along. That does say something for the site to have several people stay the whole time.

reply

Oh, I've definitely been a controversial poster here. There was an attempt in the early days to have me ostracized. That was followed by dogpiling. I'm still here. ๐Ÿ˜

reply

Iโ€™m not so sure. When I watch a film or TV series, I go straight to the specific board and read all the comments whilst itโ€™s still fresh in my head. Some of these threads are 17 years old and Iโ€™ve noticed a real change in posting styles over time.

Many threads seemed more innocent back then, more fun. Nowadays, you only have to say you like something for someone to instantly reply with a spite fuelled response.

reply

Well, you are stupid!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ Just kidding!!! I know what you mean. Some people just cannot accept that others have different opinions about movies, TV, etc.

I try to stay away from the negativity. This
is a great place to discuss favorite films, TV shows, etc. But some people canโ€™t deal with a difference of opinion.

I try to ignore the nasty comments.๐Ÿ˜

reply

Letโ€™s say you hated a film that I loved - why should that matter?

The fact that you hate it wonโ€™t have any bearing on the enjoyment that I receive from watching it.

I just let the insanity wash over me.

reply

My first post was 7 years ago but I didn't become a regular on GD until at least a year later. I divide the regulars into Dewey or post-Dewey. godewey was a much loved (now legendary) poster who passed away. I do not recall him, so I am in the post-Dewey camp. Every year there is a memorial thread about him.

https://moviechat.org/general/General-Discussion/66e832cc52da6449fa0f0b5b/7-th-Annual-Dewey-Day

reply

So you're a long timer, too! This forum is lucky to have had you for so long. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I saw that memorial thread and gathered that he was very special. Believe it or not on the IMDb board I used to frequent the most, we lost three beloved posters, two of whom I had gotten very close to. Fellow message board posters can be very special.

reply

Since the early turn of this century back when the boards were @ IMDB! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

reply

So I'm going to take it that you've been at MovieChat all along. You're lucky! ๐Ÿ™‚

reply

Yeah since day one over here. I remember when IMDB announced they would be shutting down their boards & how bummed I felt until a fellow poster announced they would be starting Moviechat & I signed up.

Three profiles later & I'm still here๐Ÿ‘
